Kevin Hart reacts to Katt Williams saying he took his movie roles: 'I hope he gets all that he needs'
Williams called Hart a "gatekeeper" during a podcast appearance in January.
Kevin Hart has reacted to wide-ranging criticism from comedian Katt Williams, including claims that Hart took all his movie roles.
Williams added some spice to his long-running beef with Hart on Shannon Sharpe's Club Shay Shay podcast recently when he leveled attacks at a litany of comedians, including him, Chris Tucker, Cedric the Entertainer, and Steve Harvey.
Hart's response? He calls Williams' rant "entertainment."
"If that's what he fuels himself off, God bless him," Hart said in a new interview with the Wall Street Journal magazine, WSJ. "Good for him. I hope he gets all that he needs and he wants, and I'm here cheering for him from afar."
"That's my real energy," he insisted. "I really mean it! That's how happy and secure I am with my career and my life."
Though his Club Shay Shay appearance was not the first time Williams had publicly criticized Hart, the interview went viral for his list of grievances, including Williams' claim that Hart had snagged roles he'd been up for.
"For a five-year period, every single movie that Kevin Hart did was a movie that had been on my desk, that all I had said was, 'Just can we take some of this step and fetching s--- out and then I can do it?'" Williams said in January, suggesting that Hart would get the parts when he would request revisions before joining a project.
"And me saying that and them going, 'Oh, yeah, no problem,' and then going to give it to this other guy and having him do it just like it was and acting like I'm a bad person because I keep standing on my standards," Williams continued. "It's interesting, but I wouldn't change it for the world — again, I'm on the winning side of these decisions."
Williams had gone after Hart, as well as Tiffany Haddish, before, insinuating that neither of the comedians deserved their success because they had achieved it so early in their careers. In that same January podcast interview, Williams called Hart a "gatekeeper" and said he "open[ed] the gate" for Haddish.
During the appearance, Williams also accused Cedric the Entertainer of stealing a joke for his Original Kings of Comedy special. Cedric responded to the accusation in the comments of an Instagram post from the podcast.
"Revisionist History, regardless of whatever Katts' opinion," he wrote. "My career can’t be reduced to One Joke Katt Williams claims as his. I been over 40 movies. My specials and brand speaks volumes for I am."
