Kevin Spacey Says He Owes ‘Many Millions’ in Legal Fees and Has No Money as Home Goes Into Foreclosure: ‘I’m Not Sure Where I’m Going to Live Now’

Kevin Spacey fought back tears during an interview on “Piers Morgan Uncensored” in which he revealed his house has been foreclosed on as he owes “many millions” of dollars in legal fees from his sexual misconduct trials. Piers Morgan asked the actor where he lives, to which Spacey said he no longer has a permanent home and barely has any money left to his name.

“It’s funny you ask that question because this week, where I have been living in Baltimore is being foreclosed on. My house is being sold at auction, so I have to go back to Baltimore and put my things in storage,” Spacey said. “So the answer to that question is, I’m not sure where I am going to live now. But I’ve been in Baltimore since we started shooting ‘House of Cards’ there. I moved there in 2012. This [house] has been my home since 2016. I can’t pay the bills that I owe.”

More tears followed when Spacey was asked if he is facing bankruptcy, to which he answered: “There’s been a couple of times when I thought I was going to file but we’ve managed to dodge it, at least as of today.”

When asked how much money he has today, Spacey said he has “none,” adding: “You have some sense of legal bills. I still owe a lot…Yes [I am in debt]. It’s considerable. Many millions. The house itself is many millions.”

Since claims of Spacey’s alleged sexual assaults and inappropriate behavior first arose in the wake of the #MeToo movement in 2017, several legal cases have been brought against the two-time Oscar winner. In 2022, a jury in New York concluded that he did not molest actor Anthony Rapp, who had accused him of sexual assault in the early 1980s when Rapp was 14. The next year, a U.K. court found Spacey not guilty of nine charges of sexual assault from four complainants. Several other charges and lawsuits have been dropped. Spacey has denied all the allegations.

A two-part documentary titled “Spacey Unmasked” recently aired in the U.K. and is now streaming on Max and features previously unheard of testimonies about Spacey’s alleged sexual misconduct, including a claim that he allegedly groped another “House of Cards” actor on set. Spacey was fired from the show by Netflix in 2017 due to alleged sexually inappropriate behavior on set.

“We had a really remarkable relationship and there’s no doubt that ‘House of Cards really put them on the map,” Spacey told Morgan about his firing. “Even though they made the decision they made, which I think was a strange decision.. it was a wrong decision. It was wrong for them as a company. It put them in a position where then anyone who was accused of anything they had to respond in a similar way. It does seem with Dave Chappelle that Ted Sarandos has learned to be supportive of controversial individuals…I do wish he’d done that with me.”

Netflix continued with “House of Cards” for a sixth and final season without Spacey’s involvement. His co-star Robin Wright became the sole lead of the series. Spacey told Morgan he’s never once heard from Wright since allegations against him first went public in fall 2017.

“I haven’t heard from Robin since September or October 2017,” he said. “I understand. I do. I think by distancing herself from me it allowed her to not have to answer a lot of questions.”

Several actors, including Sharon Stone and Liam Neeson, recently spoke out in support of Spacey by rallying for his return to acting in statements given to The Telegraph.

“I can’t wait to see Kevin back at work. He is a genius. He is so elegant and fun, generous to a fault and knows more about our craft than most of us ever will,” Stone said.

Neeson told the publication he “was deeply saddened to learn of these accusations against” Spacey, but added: “Kevin is a good man and a man of character. He’s sensitive, articulate and non-judgmental, with a terrific sense of humor. He is also one of our finest artists in the theatre and on camera. Personally speaking, our industry needs him and misses him greatly.”
