Kim Kardashian has announced a new documentary series exploring the life of Hollywood actress Elizabeth Taylor.

The reality TV star will both star in and executively produce the three-part boxset titled Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar which will air on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.

The series will comprise of archival footage and new interviews with the late icon's family, friends and colleagues, including Kardashian, who was the last person to sit down and chat with Taylor before her death in 2011.

"Elizabeth Taylor was unapologetically herself, a fighter," says Kardashian of the star ahead of the project. "She is proof that you can keep evolving and changing and have different chapters in your life - and she paved the way for all of us who came after her with that blueprint."

The documentary promises to shine a spotlight on a different side to the Cleopatra star whose life story has often been "told as a soap opera".

"This series gives Elizabeth Taylor the significance she richly deserves, in all her incarnations: as an actor, rebel, business mogul, and activist – to reveal how Taylor created the blueprint for modern celebrity," teases the official synopsis.

"The series will take a deep dive into Taylor’s craft and technique as an actor – one who mesmerised cinemagoers, but also changed the relationship between audiences and stars.

"We’ll see how she reinvented the nature of fame, even as she smashed the glass ceiling in Hollywood, before going on to become a billion-dollar businesswoman, activist and advocate."

Dame Joan Collins will also pay tribute to her late friend in the documentary with famed US scientist Dr. Anthony Fauci additionally appearing, going into detail about his work with Taylor in the fight against AIDS.

BBC Arts commissioned the documentary series from Passion Pictures, who recently produced the 2023 Netflix documentary film Wham! about iconic pop duo George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley.

Elizabeth Taylor: Rebel Superstar will air on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.
