Kim Kardashian Recalls Competing with 'Girl's Girl' Lauren Sánchez on Balenciaga Couture Auction During NYFW

The SKIMS founder and Jeff Bezos' fiancée tried to outbid each other but soon found a mutually beneficial solution

Lauren Sánchez and Kim Kardashian’s friendship was put to the test during New York Fashion Week this year.

For Sánchez’s December Vogue profile, Kardashian, 43, recalled a funny interaction with the former news anchor in September, when they were both bidding on the same Balenciaga couture at the Kering Foundation's second annual Caring for Women dinner.

Kardashian described herself as “a big auction girl” as she shared that her “strategy was to come in last minute” to swipe the couture for herself, but once she realized she was going up against Sánchez, 53, she changed course.

After the ladies initially considered sharing a dress between them — “I thought, you wear it once, I’ll wear it once, it’ll be so cute!” Kardashian said — the Kering Foundation, which was sponsoring the event, decided both of the women could be winners.

Sánchez and the SKIMS founder paid $200,000 each to secure the auction item and will eventually travel to Paris together to get fitted for the couture dress, according to Vogue.

The Kardashians star also told Vogue that her friendship with Jeff Bezos’ fiancé is one that’s full of mutual support.

“Lauren and I are always sending DMs building each other up,” she said. “Every time there’s a look that we like, she’ll say, ‘WOW,’ or, ‘OMG you look amazing.’ ”

Kardashian added, “She’s such a girl’s girl.”

Sánchez’s friendship with Kardashian is not a new development. The two have spent time together before, and in September they hung out while they both attended Beyoncé’s birthday Renaissance show in Los Angeles.

Kardashian’s mom, Kris Jenner, is another link between the shapewear mogul and Sánchez. Jenner, 68, was also in attendance at the Beyoncé concert in early September, and Sánchez posted a video with the mother-of-six as they danced the night away at SoFi Stadium.

Jenner told Vogue of her connection to both Bezos and his fiancée, “We know they will be in our lives forever.”

Kardashian has also stepped out with the soon-to-be Mrs. Bezos several more times since September, including for dinner with their mutual friends Nicky Hilton and Lorraine Schwartz in New York City.

On the Hulu star’s birthday in October, Sánchez was also in attendance as Khloé Kardashian threw her sister a lavish party to celebrate her 43rd year.

In an Instagram post, Sánchez said the event was “an absolute blast” as she shared her love for her friend.

“Your kind heart shines equally as bright as your beauty, and it's a constant reminder of the incredible person you are, both inside and out. Wishing you endless happiness in the year ahead! Happy Birthday!”
