Kim Kardashian wore Janet Jackson's iconic 'If' outfit to see Janet in concert

Like a moth to the flame, burned by attire...

Kim Kardashian is putting a recent sartorial snatch to good use. The reality star turned mogul turned future lawyer won a piece of pop history at a 2021 auction and she decided to show it off in the most appropriate place possible.

Rocking Janet Jackson's iconic "If" crop top and bell bottoms, Kardashian — along with sister Khloe and mom Kris Jenner — attended one of the Rock Hall of Famer's concerts last week in Southern California.

Kardashian posted a series of photos of herself in the outfit, which Jackson made famous in the 1993 video for the second single off her blockbuster janet. album, as well as a video of her and Khloe scream-singing the lyrics to Jackson's Oscar-nominated song from Poetic Justice, "Again."

Kardashian won the outfit at Julien's Auctions for $25,000, one of the more than 800 items the music legend put up for sale. At the time, Ms. Jackson, 'cause we're nasty, co-signed the purchase, responding to Kardashian's story on Instagram announcing her acquisition, "Thank u so much @kimkardashian. I hope "If' gives u as much pleasure as it did me."

By the ecstatic looks on Kardashian's face during the Janet concert, that's probably a safe bet.

"If," released after the Billboard juggernaut "That's the Way Love Goes," peaked at No . 4 on the Hot 100 and won Best Female Video at the 1994 MTV Video Music Awards, where the year before Jackson had performed a medley of both songs.

"If" remains the best, purest example of the dance break in music videos, featuring a heavily-copied breakdown to a souped-up violin sample from Diana Ross and the Supremes' 12th and final No. 1 hit, "Someday We'll Be Together."

Jackson is currently on her Together Again tour, which started in April 2023 and will wrap up in October of this year.

As for Kardashian, this isn't the first time she's worn an iconic outfit from a legendary woman. For the 2022 Met Gala, the reality star was heavily criticized for wearing Marilyn Monroe's famous original 1962 Jean Louis gown, in which Monroe famously sang "Happy Birthday" to President John F. Kennedy.
