King Charles is "delighted" that Kate Middleton will be at Trooping the Colour alongside the royal family as she continues to undergo cancer treatment.

"His Majesty is delighted that The Princess is able to attend tomorrow’s events, and is much looking forward to all elements of the day," a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said on June 14.

The Princess of Wales, 42, spoke to her father-in-law about her attendance at the monarch's annual birthday parade on Saturday, June 15.

Princess Kate announced her plans to attend the event with a personal message about her health on Thursday. The update was significant as the first time the Princess of Wales has spoken out since she announced on March 22 that she has cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy.

"I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days. On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting. But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well," Princess Kate said in her message.

The royal described her treatment as "ongoing" and said it "will be for a few more months."

"On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home," she explained. "I’m looking forward to attending the King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet."

The update came with a photo of Princess Kate by Matt Porteous, taken on the grounds of the Windsor estate. Prince William and Princess Kate previously tapped the photographer for their 2022 Christmas card with their kids Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.

On June 15, members of the royal family will come together for Trooping the Colour as the Household Division of the British Army celebrates King Charles' official birthday with an epic procession through London.

It was previously confirmed that the King, 75, would participate in the festivities in a modified way in light of his own cancer treatment, and conduct his review from a horse-drawn carriage alongside Queen Camilla. In years past, including the first Trooping the Colour of his royal reign in June 2023, he trotted into the spotlight on horseback.

King Charles resumed public-facing duties in late April after the palace in February that he was diagnosed with cancer and began treatment. Earlier this week, he presented the Irish Guards with their new flag (known as "colours") before the Trooping parade on June 15. Princess Kate is the honorary colonel of the regiment, which is due to ceremoniously troop its flag at the big event this year. She did not attend the Colonel's Review rehearsal on June 8, and sent the regiment a letter expressing her "apologies," sentimentally signed "Colonel Catherine."

The Princess of Wales has maintained a low profile in the months since she announced that she is undergoing chemotherapy. Her last major appearance was on Christmas Day in Sandringham with her family.

More recently, Princess Kate has been spotted out with her family and solo running errands, sources tell PEOPLE.
