King Charles to undergo ‘corrective procedure’ for benign prostate condition

King Charles III is poised to undergo a “corrective procedure” to treat a prostate condition, according to Buckingham Palace.

Britain’s 75-year-old king will undergo the procedure next week at a hospital, according to a Wednesday statement.

“His Majesty’s condition is benign,” Buckingham Palace said, noting that an enlarged prostate is “common with thousands of men each year.”

Benign prostatic hyperplasia is the most common prostate problem for men older than 50, according to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.

“The King’s public engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation,” the statement said.

News of Charles’s upcoming hospital visit comes the same day that Kensington Palace announced that his daughter-in-law, Kate, the Princess of Wales, underwent abdominal surgery.

The 42-year-old royal, the wife of Prince William, will spend up to two weeks in a London hospital, Kensington Palace said.
