Kristin Cavallari says she was 'skin and bones' during 'unhappy' marriage to Jay Cutler

Kristin Cavallari is reflecting on how her "unhappy" marriage took a physical toll.

In an episode of her "Let's Be Honest" podcast, the "Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County" star, 37, said she was "very thin" while filming her reality show "Very Cavallari" due to stress from her marriage to Jay Cutler.

"I'll put it in perspective for you guys," she said. "I'm 5'3". I currently weigh 114 pounds. Filming 'Very Cavallari,' I got down to 102, and I was eating the same amount of food that I'm eating now. The difference was, I was so unhappy and so stressed out."

She and Cutler married in 2013 and announced their divorce in 2020. Earlier this year, Cavallari went Instagram official with her new boyfriend Mark Estes, 24, and criticized backlash to their age gap.

"Very Cavallari," which followed Cavallari and her former NFL quarterback husband, aired on the E! network from 2018 to 2020.

On the podcast, the "Hills" star said she looks back at photos from this time and can't believe how "rail" thin she was.

"I was skin and bones," she said. "I think I look so much better now. And you guys, that was just stress. That was being in a really unhappy marriage, quite honestly. I mean, literally. I was so unhappy."

Additionally, Cavallari said she had "way too much" on her plate at this time, which goes "hand and hand" with her marital problems. "I was so unhappy that I was just trying to max out," she shared.

But these days, Cavallari said she is taking care of herself in a way she wasn't then, such as by working out regularly and being well-rested.

"Lifting heavier weights has been good for me to put some muscle on my body," she added.

In 2020, Cavallari said on Instagram that her divorce was "just the situation of two people growing apart" and wrote that she and Cutler "have nothing but love and respect for one another and are deeply grateful for the years shared, memories made, and the children we are so proud of." They share three children together.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight later that year, the reality star said she and Cutler tried "hard" to save their marriage, and it was "not an easy decision" to get divorced.

"I met Jay when I was 23," she said. "I was a kid, but we tried. We tried everything, but, at the end of the day, we weren't happy."

She also told ET that "Very Cavallari" ended because she "didn't want to have to talk about my divorce on camera and have to expose that," adding, "I think that some things should be kept private."
