Kyle MacLachlan, Fiona Shaw & Edmund Donovan Join Apple Thriller ‘Echo Valley’

EXCLUSIVE: Kyle MacLachlan (Fallout), Fiona Shaw (IF) and Edmund Donovan (Civil War) have signed on for roles in Echo Valley, Apple Original Films’ thriller from director Michael Pearce (Beast), which is led by Julianne Moore, Sydney Sweeney and Domhnall Gleeson.

Written by Brad Ingelsby (Mare of Easttown), the film centers on Kate Garretson (Moore), who is reeling from a personal tragedy and spends her days boarding and training horses at Echo Valley Farm, 22 secluded, picturesque acres in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Late one night, her wayward daughter, Claire (Sweeney), arrives at her doorstep, frightened, trembling, and covered in someone else’s blood, and the story becomes about just how far a mother will go to save her child.

More from Deadline

MacLachlan plays Kate’s ex-husband, Richard Garrett, a successful attorney from an old-money Main Line family. He has a new family and regards his drug-addicted daughter Claire as a self-destructive money pit. Shaw portrays Jessie Oliver, a tough-as-nails horse trainer and Kate’s lifelong friend who is a steadfast source of emotional support. Donovan is Ryan, a hapless young addict with no impulse control and no moral compass. He and Claire become involved in a network of lies that quickly ensnares Claire’s financially-strapped mother.

As previously announced, Gleeson plays Jackie, a local criminal who forces himself into Kate’s life, disrupting her quiet existence with secrets about her family.

Hailing from Apple Studios, Echo Valley is produced by Scott Free’s Ridley Scott and Michael Pruss, Ingelsby, and Kevin Walsh for The Walsh Company (Napoleon, House of Gucci), which has a multi-year producing deal with Apple TV+. Pruss and Ingelsby developed the script together. Exec producers include Scott Greenberg and Scott Free’s Rebecca Feuer and Nicole Jordan-Webber, as well as Erika Olde and Sam Roseme for Black Bicycle Entertainment. Tanja Tawadjoh is co-producing.

Currently starring as Overseer Hank MacLean in Prime Video’s hit video game adaptation Fallout, which has been renewed for a second season, MacLachlan’s upcoming slate includes Inside Out 2, which hits theaters June 14; Zoë Kravitz’s directorial debut Blink Twice, which Amazon MGM unveils on August 23; and Sterlin Harjo’s FX pilot The Sensitive Kind.

Recently seen in the widely lauded True Detective: Night Country, Shaw is part of the cast of John Krasinski’s IF, a live-action/animated fantasy comedy in theaters now, which grossed $59M worldwide over the weekend. Other upcoming projects include Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s adaptation of the Deborah Levy novel Hot Milk; the indie drama Park Avenue with Katherine Waterston and Chaske Spencer; and the Prime Video series Anansi Boys from Neil Gaiman, to name a few.

Most recently, Donovan has been seen in Alex Garland’s much-discussed A24 pic Civil War, as well as such series as Gossip Girl, Tell Me Lies, Hightown, Betty and High Fidelity. Among his other upcoming projects is Your Monster, the romantic horror comedy starring Melissa Barrera and Tommy Dewey, which launched out of Sundance 2024 and will be distributed by Vertical.

MacLachlan is represented by UTA, Entertainment 360, and attorney Alan Wertheimer; Shaw by Independent Talent and CAA; and Donovan by Gersh, Entertainment 360, and Lichter, Grossman, Nichols.
