Celtic have paid tribute to Landry N'Guemo following the death of their former player.

The ex-midfielder died this week at the age of 38 after being involved in a road accident in Cameroon.

N’Guemo made more than 40 appearances for Celtic across all competitions during the 2009/10 season under Tony Mowbray while on loan from French club Nancy.

“Everyone at Celtic Football Club is shocked and saddened at the news of Landry N'Guemo's passing at the young age of 38,” the Scottish giants said in a statement.

“The Cameroonian midfielder joined Celtic on loan from French side Nancy in the summer of 2009. He made over 43 appearances for the Celts before returning to his parent club in 2010.

“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Celtic Football Club are with Landry's family and friends at this sad time.”

N'Guemo began his career with Nancy and spent six years at Stade Marcel Picot, including that penultimate campaign on loan with Celtic. He won the Coupe de la Ligue in 2006.

He later moved to Bordeaux for three years and had a brief stint at Saint-Etienne before spending time in Turkey with both Akhisar Belediyespor and Kayserispor.

N'Guemo also featured for Kongsvinger in Norway and earned over 40 senior caps for the Cameroon national team - scoring three goals and finishing as a runner-up with the Indomitable Lions at the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana, later playing in both the 2010 and 2014 World Cups - before retiring from football in 2019 and coaching with Nancy.

"The Cameroonian Football Federation has just learned the tragic news of the passing of former Indomitable Lion Landry Nguemo in a traffic accident,” the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) said in a statement.

"Nguemo, who was a key player for the Cameroonian national team from 2006 to 2014 and a former member of Girondins de Bordeaux, will be remembered for his contributions to football.

"FECAFOOT extends its deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the entire football community."
