Last Stop Larrimah is the newest Netflix documentary capturing people's attention in the UK (it's also available via HBO/Max in the US), telling the story of a man who went missing in a town where less than 50 people lived.

Paddy Moriarty and his dog went missing in December 2017 and haven't been seen since, and director Thomas Tancred has been working on this documentary since the year after. As every other resident of Larrimah became a suspect, Tancred spent years conducting interviews with all of them.

The film presents the twists and turns in the investigation, which is still inconclusive, and has to adhere to a two-hour runtime and a level of impartiality.

But Tancred definitely had his own theories whilst working on Last Stop Larrimah.

Speaking to ScreenRant, the director said: "I was constantly coming up with theories. Also, there's a lot of stuff, obviously, that can't get into the film even though it's two hours.

"People would pull me aside and tell me things; people would tell me really interesting things about people I didn't even really think would be a part of this or were capable of doing such a thing. Also, it's such an interesting world out there.

"It's not in the film anymore, but at one point there was a story of this white van that was in town. There are these sinkholes that are near Larrimah, and somebody told me he could be thrown in there. The whole time I was coming up with theories in my head too.

"And that's the thing about the film too; it's a whodunit. You have to explain all those theories to get to the end to hopefully to find out what happened."

Now that the documentary is out, Tancred admits that he has no idea what's going to happen with the investigation next.

"There's no body for Paddy or Kellie the dog," he said.

"And without a body, it's really hard to arrest somebody — or not even arrest them, but get them sentenced. I honestly don't know what's going to happen."

Last Stop Larrimah can be streamed now on Netflix in the UK and via Max in the US.
