Latin American concertgoers upset at Americans buying international tickets: ‘Step out of your little first world country privilege shoes for two seconds’

Taylor Swift is in the middle of her Eras Tour, which has a whopping 117 shows and doesn’t end until 2024. She’ll take a break from the U.S. leg in August then start her run through Latin America in November. This marks the first time the “Lavender Haze” singer has toured there.

Swifties in Latin America are ecstatic that their favorite artist has an entire leg of her monstrous tour in their section of the globe. However, they are upset at Americans for potentially taking that opportunity away.

Several Latinx creators on TikTok are posting videos pushing back at American Swifties for buying tickets for concerts outside of the U.S.

Earlier this year, Yahoo Entertainment reported that the average U.S. resale ticket for the Eras Tour is $1,311. On the other hand, tickets in Argentina are reportedly $153.

TikToker Vale (@_http_valee) shared a video calling out Americans for doing this.

“Step out of your little first world country privilege shoes for two seconds and think about how long Latin American fans have been hoping, begging, pleading for Blondie to remember there’s a continent down here,” she said, referring to Swift.

Many agreed as they recognize that there aren’t many chances to see Swift live, especially outside of the U.S.

“YES! Also because apparently latin america is only Mexico, Argentina and Brazil,” @spxceoddity commented. “From other countries here we have really little chance to see her.”

Isabella Villegas (@bellyvmtz), a Swiftie born and raised in Latin America and currently living in the United States, also shared her point of view.

“The prices of these tickets were not for American fans to be able to get cheaper tickets,” Villegas said. “It’s so Latin America fans can afford tickets at all.”

In March, Swifties sued Ticketmaster for violating antitrust laws and imposing anti-competitive prices on fans. Since then, President Joe Biden announced new regulations forcing Ticketmaster (and its parent company Live Nation) to allow consumers to see the full price of tickets upfront. However, that won’t change the actual price — and some fans are taking that into consideration.

“I think Latin American tour should go to Latin Americans fans first…but the US Tour prices & ticket process is still ridiculous, both can be true,” replied @mywastelesslife.

Fans regularly travel internationally for concerts, as many American Beyoncé fans did the same thing for the Renaissance Tour. With ticket prices consistently over $1,000, some fans make the concert part of an international vacation.

Still, with this being the first time Taylor Swift has dates in Latin America, fans in those countries hope they’ll have the best opportunity to see her live.
