Leah Messer is focusing on her girls amid a difficult time in her own life.

Speaking with PEOPLE about the new season of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, the mom of three, 32, admits, "This has probably been one of the most difficult seasons for me."

"It definitely isn't the most difficult, but it was a very difficult season to film. Watching it at the end, I know it was all worth it, but it was very hard to navigate. I work on rebuilding a relationship with my father and then figuring out how to allow him and know when to allow him to build a relationship with Ali, Aleeah and Adalynn."

Leah's strained relationship with her dad has been documented throughout the show. The dedicated mom has always taken the twins, 14, and her youngest, 11, into consideration.

"I think that it was difficult for me to open up, but once I did, it allowed us all to rebuild," she says.

"I think this season, you also see all the talks I've had with my daughters over the years coming together, in a sense, and we see what they believe in and how they use their voices," Leah notes.

"You'll see why I had all those hard, maybe sometimes cringy conversations with them. I think it's opened the door for them to have any conversation with me now in their teenage years, which I think is vital."

Amid "juggling huge life changes," the mom of three also enjoys her girls as they grow and pursue their interests.

"Ali and Aleeah both made the show choir in high school and they're ecstatic. Ali was like, 'I don't know if I want to do band,' and Aleeah convinced her to be a part of show choir."

This summer, she's looking forward to quality time and hoping to get in a camping trip with her three girls.

"I really want to go camping. I haven't been camping in a long time," she says. "It's so fun to just roast marshmallows and enjoy the peace, maybe some boating and time on the beach. We'll enjoy a really relaxing summer."

Teen Mom: The Next Chapter airs Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. on MTV.
