At least one car bomb explodes in Syria's Raqqa city, reports of casualties - local media

AMMAN (Reuters) - At least one car bomb struck the SDF-controlled city of Raqqa with local Kurdish and Arab media outlets saying there were a number of casualties, including several dead.

Kurdish news portals said a mine exploded, followed by two car bombs that left several dead, including women and children. Other local Arab portals said at least four died in the explosion.

There has been an steady increase in attacks on areas controlled by the U.S. backed Syrian Democratic Forces that are mainly east of the Euphrates River.

The U.S.-backed group led by the Kurdish YPG militia has warned that Islamic State militants would intensify an insurgency after their territorial defeat in their last enclave in Syria.

China anchors 'monster ship' in South China Sea, Philippine coast guard says
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said on Saturday that China's largest coastguard vessel has anchored in Manila's exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the South China Sea, and is meant to intimidate its smaller Asian neighbour. The China coastguard's 165-meter 'monster ship' entered Manila's 200-nautical mile EEZ on July 2, spokesperson for the PCG Jay Tarriela told a news forum. The PCG warned the Chinese vessel it was in the Philippine's EEZ and asked about their intentions, he said.
