LeBron James Will Opt-Out Of His Lakers Contract – Report

At 2 PM Pacific time today, LeBron James will be eligible to move on to any team in the NBA.

That’s not to say he will, particularly since the Lakers drafted his son, Bronny, and has his podcast partner, J.J. Redick, as the team’s new coach.

ESPN reports James intends to opt out of the final year of his contract with the Lakers, worth $51.4 million for next season. He intends to work out a new deal with the team, a source familiar with his plans told ESPN.

The Lakers can commit up to a maximum three-year, $162 million contract.

James averaged 25.7 points, 8.3 assists and 7.3 rebounds in 71 games this past season — the most games he has played in six seasons with the franchise. He became the first player in league history to surpass 40,000 points.
