Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda are still working 9 to 5!

The former costars in the film (who later reunited for the Netflix series Grace and Frankie) got together once more for the premiere of the 2022 documentary Still Working 9 to 5 on Wednesday, May 29. On the red carpet, the pair spoke with PEOPLE about their decades-old friendship, with Tomlin saying, "It's meant a great deal to me."

"I mean, I was a huge fan of Fonda's back in the day," she says. "I had a klute hairdo for two years."

"We’ve made two other films together since then and spent seven years doing Grace and Frankie. We love each other," Fonda adds. "We spend time with each other. Unfortunately, Dolly's all the way on the other side of the country, so we don't see her quite as much. I just feel lucky."

The new documentary celebrates the pair's 1980 hit movie, which costarred Dolly Parton and "explores why workplace inequality 40 years later was never a laughing matter," per an official synopsis.

Aside from serving as the documentary's official Hollywood premiere and screening, the event on Wednesday, May 29, honored Tomlin, 84, Fonda, 86, and Parton, 78, as Women’s Equality Trailblazers by the ERA Coalition Forward, as reported by Deadline. While Parton couldn't make the Los Angeles event in person due to a previous Nashville-based commitment, per Deadline, the outlet reported that she'd provide a video message in her stead.

A story about sisterhood and solidarity, 9 to 5 starred Fonda, Tomlin and Parton as as Judy Bernly, Violet Newstead and Doralee Rhodes, respectively, three women who take revenge on their sexist boss (the recently deceased Dabney Coleman) at a corporate office.

The comedy's success inspired a sitcom with the same title that ran on ABC from 1982 to 1983 and in syndication into 1988 — and starred Parton's younger sister Rachel Dennison in the "Jolene" hitmaker's role.

Additionally, a 9 to 5 musical adaptation, with music and lyrics written by Parton, ran on Broadway between April and September 2009, per Playbill. The production received four nominations at that year's Tony Awards.

According to the synopsis for Still Working 9 to 5, the newly premiered documentary "examines the 40-year evolution of gender inequality and discrimination in the workplace since the 1980 release of the classic seminal comedy."

Back in 2018, Fonda revealed that she, Parton and Tomlin intended to make a 9 to 5 sequel, but Parton explained to Entertainment Tonight the following year they scrapped the idea after further consideration.

"I don't think we're going to do the sequel," she said at the time. "We never could get the script where it was enough different than the first one, and that one turned out so good."

However, Jennifer Aniston is taking a new spin on the classic '80s movie, as she is set to produce a reimagining of 9 to 5. The Morning Show star, 55, is attached to produce through her production company Echo Films, which she runs with producer Kristin Hahn.

While no plot details are available yet for the in-development project, Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody (Juno, Jennifer's Body, Lisa Frankenstein) is penning the movie's script.

The original 9 to 5 received an Academy Award nomination at the 1981 ceremony, for Parton's title track from the movie.
