Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke called off their engagement weeks before their Mexico wedding.

The reality stars split suddenly in September 2023. In a letter to family and friends obtained by PEOPLE, Radke said: "We are not moving forward with the wedding. The fact of the matter is Lindsay is devastated and I'm crushed with how all this transpired."

The Bravo stars met while filming the first season of Summer House in 2016, however, things were strictly platonic between the two as they were both dating other people at the time. The duo had a short-lived romance during the fourth season before they ultimately decided that they were better off as friends. Sparks flew once again in 2021, thanks to a prom-themed party where they rekindled their relationship.

"We're lucky because eventually, the universe came together and the timing worked out!" Hubbard shared with PEOPLE. "I don't think I've ever been in a healthier relationship. Falling in love with your best friend, I don't think there's any better feeling in the world."

The two then moved in together and supported each other through major life events, including Radke's sobriety journey and Hubbard's decision to freeze her eggs.

In August 2022, Radke surprised Hubbard with a romantic private proposal in Southhampton, a moment that was captured by Bravo cameras for Summer House's seventh season. A year later, Hubbard celebrated her upcoming nuptials with a garden party-themed bridal shower before their wedding was called off the next month.

Summer 2016: Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke meet filming Summer House season 1

Hubbard and Radke met in 2016 while filming the first season of Bravo's Summer House, which aired in January 2017. They were just friends at the time, as Hubbard was involved with costar Everett Weston and Radke was with Lauren Wirkus.

Summer 2019: Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke start dating, but quickly break up

During Summer House season 4, fans saw Radke and Hubbard attempt to turn their chemistry into romance, but things got rocky and they decided they were ultimately better off as friends.

In February 2020, Hubbard spoke to PEOPLE about her previous budding romance with Radke ahead of the season 4 premiere.

"We have gotten closer throughout the years and especially after a couple of summers ago and then fall, winter, spring, we just kept getting closer and closer and then we both wound up single at the same time, which I don't think has ever really happened," said Hubbard. "But our friendship chemistry is just like so apparent that I think a lot of people were sort of waiting for something to happen."

March 5, 2020: Lindsay Hubbard defends Carl Radke on Instagram

As season 4 was airing, Hubbard clarified what exactly happened between her and Radke on Instagram.

"Unfortunately going into it, Carl didn't exactly understand that I'm not dating just to date at this point in my life (even if he is my best friend), or that he wasn't quite ready for the level of commitment I need in a relationship," she shared. "Our expectations were not aligned, which is where it all went wrong."

Hubbard continued, "He owned his sh– and we have both moved on. It took some time and you will continue to see this play out of course. This is a long season, with 14 episodes, and we're only on episode 5. A LOT happens this season, trust me!"

September 25, 2021: Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke get cozy at Kyle Cooke and Amanda Batula's wedding

Fellow Summer House stars Kyle Cooke and Amanda Batula tied the knot in September 2021, and both Hubbard and Radke were in attendance. Hubbard posted a picture from the wedding of herself and Radke with their arms around each other and the caption "Lito & Linds 💕," which led some fans to wonder if they were back together.

October 31, 2021: Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke spark dating rumors with their couples' Halloween costume

Dating rumors continued to swirl on Halloween when Hubbard posted a picture of herself and Radke in costume as Dirty Dancing characters Frances "Baby" Houseman and Johnny Castle.

January 12, 2022: Lindsay Hubbard confirms she's dating Carl Radke

In an interview with PageSix, Hubbard confirmed that she and Radke were back together. She explained that they weren't using "girlfriend/boyfriend" labels yet, though.

"We're definitely dating!" she said. "We don't really talk in labels, Carl and I … [But] we're very much together. We're very happy."

January 17, 2022: Carl Radke confirms relationship with Lindsay Hubbard on Watch What Happens Live

A few days later, Radke appeared on Watch What Happens Live and confirmed the relationship himself. When host Andy Cohen asked Radke about Hubbard's interview in which she said they weren't using labels, he responded definitively: "We're girlfriend-boyfriend."

Cohen also asked if Radke — who committed to sobriety in early 2021 — believed being sober would change his approach to dating Hubbard this time around.

He responded, "I think because I'm clear-headed, I'm a little more composed, I have patience and I'm able to communicate a little more effectively, which I think for her is important because she likes consistency. When I'm sober, I'm just very consistent."

January 27, 2022: Lindsay Hubbard wishes Carl Radke a happy birthday

Hubbard shared a series of adorable photos of herself and Radke for his 37th birthday. In the caption, she thanked Radke's parents. "Thank you for bringing this beautiful/incredible man into the world, for raising him with strength, integrity, compassion, and a strong moral compass. I am beyond thankful to you!" she wrote. "Happy birthday baby! I can't wait to celebrate you all day today! I love you!!"

February 4, 2022: Carl Radke shares a tribute to his late brother and thanks Lindsay Hubbard for her support

Radke honored his late brother Curtis with an emotional Instagram tribute on what would have been his 42nd birthday. In the caption, the reality star also spoke about his sobriety and thanked Hubbard for her support.

"Today would have been my brother's 42nd birthday," he wrote. "I am so lucky to have incredible friends, family and girlfriend who made it so meaningful. @lindshubbs you are beyond amazing and thank you for being right here with me."

February 14, 2022: Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke celebrate Valentine's Day

On Valentine's Day, Hubbard posted romantic pictures of her and Radke's trip to Mexico, along with an equally sweet caption.

"I wake up every morning feeling so blessed to have the incredible love this man gives me," she wrote. "There is unwavering security & safety, emotional intimacy, a calm happiness, equality, and at the forefront of it all, mutual respect for one another … William Carl Radke, I truly believe you were put on this earth to be my forever Valentine!"

Radke also shared a Valentine's Day Instagram post. "I can't fight this feeling anymore 😍Happy 1st Valentine's Day mi amor," he wrote alongside a picture of Hubbard and a red rose at dinner.

March 10, 2022: Carl Radke takes Lindsay Hubbard to his hometown of Pittsburgh

Radke took Hubbard home to Pittsburgh for an event with canned cocktail brand Loverboy. Radke is vice president of sales for Loverboy, which was founded by Summer House costar Cooke. He posted a sweet selfie of the couple overlooking the city, captioning it in part, "She looks good in 🖤💛."

April 2022: Lindsay Hubbard takes Carl Radke to see her family in Florida

The following month, the couple spent time with Hubbard's family in Florida for Easter. Hubbard posted a series of pictures and videos of her and Radke enjoying some quality time with her loved ones.

April 26, 2022: Lindsay Hubbard reveals where her relationship with Carl Radke began

In April 2022, Hubbard shared "where it all began" with Radke: season 6's prom-themed party.

"So like normal proms ... when you and your best friend are both single, you just got to prom together ... But the universe had different plans that day," she shared on her Instagram Story. "@carlradke was so damn handsome ... so sweet ... so thoughtful. He had me cracking up ALL day. And we truly didn't leave each other's side that day. My heart was beating faster, and something just felt different."

May 1, 2022: Lindsay Hubbard shares that she's freezing her eggs with support from Carl Radke

A month later, Hubbard shared on Instagram that she had begun the process of freezing her eggs and that Radke was supporting her on the journey.

"Right now, I'm on my 3rd day of hormone injections … and it's really not so bad … but I have about another week to go," she wrote. "I mean, I talked to Carl on the phone this morning (because he's been out of town this wknd) and I teared up, then laughed hysterically at something, and then cried because my eyes are puffy and I feel like a pirate!"

May 10, 2022: Lindsay Hubbard says she's "proud" of Carl Radke's sobriety journey

In May 2022, Hubbard praised her boyfriend on Instagram for being so open about his sobriety journey.

"Not only did he navigate his newfound sobriety last summer with strength & what seemed like ease (even though I know it must have been difficult at times with all of us drinking around him), but he has helped a lot of people along the way," she wrote. "The fact that @carlradke has been so open, so vulnerable with his journey, readiness to take accountability, and so dedicated to his own personal growth ... he is inspiring to watch. I love you baby!"

May 12, 2022: Carl Radke congratulates Lindsay Hubbard on MTV Awards nomination

Radke returned the favor the following month when Hubbard earned a nomination for best reality star at the MTV Movie & TV Awards.

"I'm so proud of this one! 6+ years of sharing her story and for it to culminate with such a cool nomination is just amazing!" he wrote on Instagram. "You've grown and evolved into such a strong beautiful woman and yet you have so much ahead of you. You've given so much to so many and I'm in awe all the time! Well deserved 👏🏻 Love you babe!"

May 2022: Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke move in together

Hubbard and Radke took the next step in their relationship by moving in together. "We're getting a brand-new apartment unit and building to start fresh and start this new chapter together," Hubbard told PEOPLE.

She also clarified their relationship timeline, saying, "I found out we were boyfriend and girlfriend when he went on Watch What Happens Live in January, but we've been basically unofficially dating since, I would say, October."

June 5, 2022: Carl Radke says he wants to marry Lindsay Hubbard

On the MTV Movie & TV Awards: UNSCRIPTED red carpet, Radke spoke to PEOPLE about his future with Hubbard and said he "100 percent" plans to marry her. "I'm in awe of her as a person and getting more romantic has been just an amazing thing," he shared.

He continued, "We have a lot of really good core things that I think any couple should have. But as friends we were able to build that without being awkward."

August 27, 2022: Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke get engaged

After nearly a year of dating, Radke got down on one knee and asked Hubbard to marry him during a romantic proposal at Southhampton's Dune Beach.

"I was so surprised, I'm still in shock!" Hubbard told PEOPLE exclusively.

To pull off the surprise, Radke told Hubbard they were heading to the beach for a group bonfire, but instead she was met with a sweet picnic and signs that referenced their relationship. Radke then told her he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her and that their "love story was just beginning."

"He said, 'Will you marry me?' and I said, 'A thousand times, yes!' " Hubbard explained. "And he said, 'Hold on, let me get the ring' and I was like, 'I don't care! When should we get married? Now? I'm ready!' "

Radke proposed with a 4.02-carat Nicole Rose diamond ring. The special moment was captured by Bravo for Summer House's upcoming seventh season.

October 13, 2022: Carl Radke wants Andy Cohen to officiate his wedding to Lindsay Hubbard

While chatting with PEOPLE, Radke talked about his pending nuptials with Hubbard.

"It's been a whirlwind," he said. "That was the No. 1 question: when and where? But we're still talking. Right now, we're just trying to enjoy the engagement."

Radke officiated the wedding between his Summer House costars Batula and Cooke. When asked if Cooke return the favor, he shared that he has someone else in mind.

"Kyle would be a great option," Radke said. "I'm working on maybe getting Andy Cohen."

At BravoCon 2022 the next day, Hubbard revealed that she and Radke haven't started wedding planning yet. "I was in Europe, just really enjoying the end of filming and my new engagement and now we're here, so this has been my focus," she said on the "Bravo 2 Bravo" panel. "But after BravoCon, I'm going to hit the ground running."

November 15, 2022: Carl Radke and Lindsay Hubbard attend Limitless premiere in New York City

The couple walked the red carpet at the NYC premiere of Limitless, a National Geographic mini-series that stars Chris Hemsworth. Hubbard donned a black cropped blazer and mini skirt, while Radke sported ripped denim and a gray suit jacket.

"Carl and I went to the Limitless with @ChrisHemsworth premier last night and it was epic! 💛," Hubbard wrote on Instagram. "I laughed (hard), I teared up, I learned some life lessons, and I walked away with gratitude. It's a mini series with a lot of heart."

November 24, 2022: Carl Radke and Lindsay Hubbard spend Thanksgiving in Florida

Radke and Hubbard spent the Thanksgiving holiday in Florida with her family and friends. They also made time for a member of the Bravo family — Captain Lee Rosbach of Below Deck.

Hubbard shared a slew of photos from their trip on Instagram and wrote: "Just got back to NYC and feeling beyond thankful for my week in Florida with the best friends & fam 🙏🦃🤎🍷🍽️💃🏼🥳."

January 8, 2023: Lindsay Hubbard celebrates Carl Radke's sobriety anniversary

Radke has been sober for two years — and Hubbard gave him a special shout-out on Instagram.

"I am so beyond proud of you, your journey, your strength, and your dedication to becoming the best version of yourself. You inspire so many people! ✨ I love you!" she wrote.

February 9, 2023: Carl Radke says it "would be crazy" not to film his wedding to Lindsay Hubbard

While chatting with E! News, Radke shared that he and Hubbard are more than willing to film their wedding for Summer House. He even went as far as to say that it "would be crazy" not to have cameras surrounding them on their big day.

"We've been such big parts of the show," Radke explained. "You've seen our journeys and now we're together and you're going to see the engagement this season, and then for them not to film? Imagine if we were like, 'Alright, that's all you get from Carl and Lindsay.' "

Hubbard added that deciding to film their nuptials meant a small, more understated wedding was off the table.

"We are looking at this year in the fall and it being a big, big wedding," she said. "It's taken this long for us to come together — he's 38, I'm 36 — I don't think there is anybody in our lives that would let us get away with a small wedding, including Bravo."

May 1, 2023: Carl Radke had a panic attack before proposing to Lindsay Hubbard

Just days before he was set to propose to Hubbard, Radke was rushed to the hospital.

"We went to a concert. Carl's behind me dancing, his arms around me. All of a sudden, he's like, 'I need to sit down.' Next thing you know, he grabs me and his knees, I'm not joking, his legs are wobbling and he looks s---ty. And he's like, 'I can't feel my legs,' " Hubbard shared during a conversation with Kyle Cooke on an episode of Summer House. "So we get to the infirmary, and they essentially say to me, 'His blood pressure and his heart rate are so low, we're sending him to the ER.' "

The doctors told Radke that he'd had a panic attack, likely due to stress, excitement and too much caffeine.

"I panic-attacked myself into the hospital," he said during a confessional interview, clearly embarrassed by the series of events. "[Lindsay] slept right there next to me [in the hospital] and was with me every inch of the way and had to do all this stuff to help my panic-attacked ass."

June 1, 2023: Kyle Cooke and Amanda Batula will have "zero involvement" in Carl Radke and Lindsay Hubbard's wedding

Cooke and Batula told PEOPLE that they will have "zero involvement" in Radke and Hubbard's wedding aside from being attendees.

"I told Carl I don't expect him to reciprocate the offer to officiate,” Cooke shared. "I'm like, ‘It's a lot of pressure.’ I feel like I'm pretty verbose. They need someone who can be concise."

Batula added: "Carl was a very important person in both of our lives. I don't think you are that important of a person in Lindsay's life."

August 13, 2023: Lindsay Hubbard hosts a bridal shower ahead of her upcoming wedding to Carl Radke

Hubbard spoke to PEOPLE about her garden party-themed bridal shower at Cathédrale at Moxy East Village in New York City.

“It has so much greenery, it's almost like this greenhouse within the restaurant," the reality star said of the N.Y.C. destination. "It is just such a beautiful venue. The theme just sort of matches the location.”

Hubbard’s stepmom and Radke’s mother were in attendance, as were a number of Summer House cast members, including Batula, Danielle Olivera, Ciara Miller, Gabby Prescod and Samantha Feher.

September 11, 2023: Lindsay Hubbard and Carl Radke call off their engagement

Radke announced in a letter to family and friends that he and Hubbard were canceling their wedding and calling off their engagement.

"Words cannot possibly express how difficult the last two weeks have been for Lindsay and I," he wrote in the letter, which was obtained by PEOPLE. "We are so incredibly sorry to all of our guests for the confusion and lack of communication. We were left trying to figure out how this all exactly happened before we could even have the opportunity to determine the path forward amongst ourselves."

September 14, 2023: Lindsay Hubbard posts about her split from Carl Radke

Hubbard opened up about her and Radke's breakup for the first time in an Instagram post.

“The last 2 weeks have been the most heartbreaking and emotional weeks of my life,” she wrote. “My entire life and future was ripped out from underneath me and I’ve had a hard time making sense of it all - with no answers or closure on why."

Hubbard added that she feels "humiliated by how it went down" and "heartbroken."

The day before, Captain Lee Rosbach, who was set to be the former couple's wedding officiant, talked about Radke's reaction to the split during an episode of PodcastOne’s Salty With Captain Lee.

“Carl and I have had a conversation about this,” he said during the episode. “I am not at liberty to discuss any of that conversation but he is as devastated as anyone I’ve ever seen."

November 1, 2023: Lindsay Hubbard says Carl Radke "blew up" her life

During an interview with Us Weekly, Hubbard revealed that the decision to call off their engagement and wedding was Radke's choice.

"He blew up my entire life," she told the outlet. "I was crying, I was angry, and I had to find closure on my own. Now, I’m at a place where I feel really good about moving on."

However, while attending BravoCon, Radke told PEOPLE that Hubbard wasn't "blindsided" by the breakup.

“We had a really rough summer and I think people will see that,” he said, referring to season 8 of Summer House.

February 20, 2024: Carl Radke says he's stayed single due to "entanglements" with Lindsay Hubbard

Radke isn't ready to date, for a few reasons.

"I don't feel like it's responsible or fair to try and pursue a new relationship when there's still some entanglements, and [we're] having to relive the breakup publicly on TV,” he told PEOPLE. “I personally feel like it's best for me to take some more time ... focus on myself, my career, my family, my friendships. I think, as I keep working towards that, something will happen on the dating side.”
