Netflix has unveiled the release date for the seventh season of Élite, with the Spanish teen drama set to return to screens later this year.

The series was renewed for another season last year, but fans have been eagerly anticipating a concrete date for the next batch of episodes.

As part of the streaming service’s TUDUM: Global Fan Event, Netflix released a short teaser trailer for the upcoming season, with the release date confirmed for October 20.

The clip first depicts the numerous characters free falling from a thunderous sky, before eventually settling down as the couples make out with each other in a mysterious setting.

The seventh season sees the return of Omar Ayuso as Omar Shanaa, with the actor skipping the sixth season after appearing in each of the first five; Nadia Al Saidi will also be reprising her role as Sonia.

There will also be a fresh crop of students at Las Encinas, with the new cast members including Mirela Balic, Fernando Líndez, Gleb Abrosimov, Iván Mendes, Alejandro Albarracín and Maribel Verdú. Directing duties for the season will be handled by Lino Escalera, Menna Fité, Roger Gualand and Ana Vázquez.

Élite has won considerable acclaim for its inclusive representation and tackling of sensitive issues, with our review of the third season saying: “What's particularly impressive is that these kind of storylines are integrated seamlessly into the overall narrative without sidelining their inherent queerness or sensationalising them as something strange to be gawped at.”

Elsewhere in the TUDUM event, Netflix unveiled a sneak peak at their upcoming reality spin-off to Squid Game and the fourth season of Emily in Paris.

Élite season 7 will premiere on Netflix on October 20. Seasons 1-6 are available to stream on Netflix now.
