A man was left stunned after finding what appeared to be the "map of Cornwall" - inside a tree in Cornwall. Jamie MacDonald was caught by surprise when, after cutting a tree, he noticed the shape of the county engraved in a tree trunk.

Mr MacDonald, who runs a charter boat, said the find was "unusual" - as he had never come across such a distinctive pattern. Following his discovery, the 43-year-old shared a photo of the log on his social media page - which gathered hundreds of likes.

A 20-year-old has achieved her dream of becoming an on-call firefighter after completing her A-Levels.

Mya Malthouse has joined the ranks of the County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, having always wanted to serve in the fire service.

Mya started her journey at Durham Fire Station, where she began training in September 2024, saying: "I have always wanted to be a firefighter because I like helping people."

Over a hundred postcards have been "secretly" delivered to addresses across the city for residents to "treasure." Earlier this week, The Echo reported how a fascinating postcard which was written well over a century ago arrived back at its original address in Liverpool.

Last weekend, Mikey Reid, originally from Widnes, was leaving his flat on Parkfield Road in Aigburth when he noticed a brown envelope left in the communal hall. Addressed to the building, he was unsure whether to open it at first but was then surprised to find an 116-year-old postcard inside.

A Surrey couple say they feel like they are being “treated like criminals” over a 90-year-old Land Registry mistake that means their garden and driveway encroach on council land.

Over a third of the garden, a roughly two-metre wide slice, is apparently on land owned by a Surrey council.

Wells Cathedral appeal to restore 'magnificent' organ reaches £1m milestone

An appeal to restore the "rapidly deteriorating" organ at Wells Cathedral has reached a £1m milestone. Supporters are now halfway to their target in their bid to restore the "once magnificent instrument".

The Grand Organ Appeal was launched by the Friends of Wells Cathedral, who say the skill of organists has helped to mask the decline in its performance. They have now been able to draw up a timetable for work to repair it.
