London travel news: Paddington delays for Elizabeth line, Heathrow Express and Glastonbury fans cleared

Travellers in west London, including music fans heading to Glastonbury Festival, faced long delays on Thursday after a person was hit by a train.

Elizabeth line, Great Western Railway (GWR) and Heathrow Express services suffered long delays and cancellations after all lines were closed between London Paddington and Heathrow Airport as well as to Reading.

GWR said all lines were blocked at West Ealing on Thursday morning due to "the emergency services dealing with an incident near the railway".

Lines have since reopened and services returned to normal after 3pm.

The incident affected services to and from London Paddington, which is on the route serving Castle Cary, the nearest station to Glastonbury Festival.

Major Tube station could close during Pride in London

Oxford Circus Tube station could close on Saturday “at short notice” due to strike action as tens of thousands make their way to Pride in London.

Transport for London (TfL) urged Pride revellers to check their journeys before setting off, with the capital’s transport network expected to be heaving on Saturday due to several events and planned closures.

Oxford Circus may close on Friday June 28 and Saturday June 29 due to industrial action.

Delays in west London extended until 3pm

Travellers in west London have been hit by further delays following a casualty on the tracks on Thursday morning.

All lines have reopened but trains may still be cancelled or delayed by 25 minutes until 3pm.

Elizabeth line, Great Western Railway and Heathrow Express services are affected.

Tube network hit by range of delays

There are currently delays on five lines on the tube network.

Transport for London has warned that there are severe delays on the Elizabeth line between Paddington and Reading as well as to Heathrow Airport.

There are also minor delays on the line between Abbey Wood and Paddington.There are also severe delays on the Jubilee Line due to a faulty train at Canary Wharf and similar delays on the Piccadilly Line between Acton Town and Uxbridge/Heathrow Airport following a signal failure at Turnham Green.

TfL has said there are minor delays between Leytonstone and Hainault via Newbury Park on the Central Line due to train cancellations. There are also minor delays on the Metropolitan Line due to a faulty train at Finchley Road.

British Transport Police confirm casualty on tracks near West Ealing

Police were called to a casualty on the tracks near West Ealing at around 7.30am on Thursday.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “Officers were called to the line near West Ealing at around 7.30am today (27 June) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at thescene.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will beprepared for the coroner.”

Dozens sat on floor at Paddington near Castle Cray services

Several trains have been cancelled at London Paddington, including the 8.38am departure from the capital to Castle Cary - the nearest station to Glastonbury Festival.Dozens of people sat on the floor at Paddington near the boarding area for Castle Cary services.

Hannah Yates, 28, from north London, who was booked on a train with four friends, told PA: "I went up to (a member of staff) and they said there's been a fatality on the line and to wait for 45 minutes, so we're waiting for the next announcement.

"It's frustrating, I would say.

"This was a day that's already quite stressful so this adds to it."

Another festivalgoer, who gave their name as Zac, said: "We took the Elizabeth line here and they had cancelled the Elizabeth line to Heathrow so we had a suspicion.

"We're still looking forward to it - a couple of hours won't make a difference to the whole weekend."

Passengers are being warned to expect disruption until 1pm.
