London travel news LIVE: Delays at Dartford Crossing after broken down lorry causes temporary tunnel closure

A broken down lorry forced part of the Dartford Tunnel to close, with traffic queuing for around three miles before it reopened.

National Highways said on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday afternoon: “Recovery is complete and the East Bore Tunnel is now open on the A282 northbound Dartford Crossing following a broken down HGV.

“There are residual delays of at least 30 minutes in the area.”

It warned at 3.35pm that traffic was beginning to build, with three miles of congestion on approach to the tunnel.

Meanwhile trains travelling on routes to and from London Euston are understood to be running as normal, following urgent repairs are made to tracks at Tring, which earlier caused widespread disruption.
