Take a look at Spider-Man's suit through the years
Spider-Man is that one superhero that almost every kid can relate to as he is not a billionaire like Tony Stark, or the God of Thunder like Thor.
He is just an average high schooler who is broke most of the time, bullied by his peers and lives with his Aunt May, but everything changes when a radioactive spider bites him and infects him with superpowers (he still lives with his aunt though).
Spidey has a large comic book following, but his adaptations for the big screen have always kind of struggled. After Sam Raimi's version with Tobey Maguire, Marc Webb rebooted the franchise with Andrew Garfield in the lead role but it only survived one sequel before getting the story rebooted once again.
One would think that Spider-Man's suits haven't changed much on the big screen, but a real superhero geek would notice that there are notable differences.
Let's take a closer look at the suits that shape up Spider-Man.
"Spider-Man" & "Spider-Man 2" (2002)
James Acheson was the award-winning designer that was in charge of all the three Sam Raimi "Spider-Man" films. Spidey's eyes are created small and triangular. The suits material was given a scale like pattern, overlaid by a webbing pattern on top to add dimension.
"Spider-Man 3" (2007)
The third installment of the film brought in the 'symbiote' suit, which is also known as the 'Black suit'. The only change was the black colour and a slightly modified chest emblem. And who is to forget the 'Emo Spider-Man'?
"The Amazing Spider-Man" (2012)
When a Spider-Man suit undergoes modification, only those with a sharp eye can spot the differences. Designer Kim Barrett had instructions to make the suit "same but not the same, different but not too different" and the result was something similar, yet totally different. Notice how the red parts near Andrew Garfield's hips do not connect to the front of his abs? He even upgraded to a better webbed imprint, having more detail with silver web shooters affixed to his wrists.
"The Amazing Spider-Man 2" (2014)
The most recent appearance of Spider-Man looks exactly like Tobey Maguire's debut suit, that's because it is the same design! Director Marc Webb went back to the classic look and enlarged the look of the eyes with bright white lenses and a bigger chest emblem.
"Captain America: Civil War" (2016)
The latest Spidey suit is not based on any recent design from the comics, in fact, it is a whole new design! The webbing pattern on this suit is not like previous suits too as it runs vertically. The texture of the suit is not too visible as the costume designers might have used a different fabric or maybe even CGI-edited the suit.
The size of the emblem on the chest has been reduced to a way small logo, but the cool thing about this suit is the mechanical eyes!
