Loose Women panellist Carol McGiffin has publicly addressed her absence from the show for the first time, claiming she has taken a break due to a contract dispute.

In a column for Best Magazine, the ex-Celebrity Big Brother contestant explained her reasons for not appearing on Loose Women for months, calling a contract given to her by the broadcaster "unjust and unworkable".

"The problem was, ITV were insisting, for the first time since I went back in 2018, that if I wanted to carry on doing the show, I would have to sign a contract that was totally unjust and unworkable for me, so I had to say 'no thanks'," McGiffin wrote.

She added: "No one in their right mind would have signed that contract. And I can't see a way back from it."

ITV released a statement in response, sharing: "ITV will not comment on or disclose details of individual contracts but all ITV contracts comply with the required employment and HMRC legislation."

McGiffin had originally joined the panel show back in 2000 before taking a break in 2013. She later returned in 2018.

A number of McGiffin's co-stars have responded to her absence after she posted about it on her Instagram account.

"I really hope I get to see you again. Love you lots lovely lady," Brenda Edwards commented.
