Lauren Speed-Hamilton and Cameron Hamilton are one of the most beloved couples to come out of Love Is Blind, but even they have had to work for their marriage.

While celebrating their partnership with Lay's for the launch of their new Sweet & Spicy Honey flavored chips, the couple opens up to PEOPLE about how they've made their marriage work despite being opposites in some ways and facing some rough patches in their five-year marriage.

"I think for us, we just tackle things head-on," explains Lauren, 36. "We don't let things fester. Of course, sometimes you need to take moment to breathe so that you don't act out of emotions.... So we take our moments and then for me, I immediately go to Cam like, 'Hey, this happened. I feel like we should talk about it. It made me feel this way. How did it make you feel?' And I think that that's really helped us throughout our marriage."

"Don't let it fester. Don't go to sleep mad at each other 'cause nothing good can really come from that. And therapy, couples therapy as well," she emphasizes.

Cameron, 33, credits the effort they've both put into the marriage as a main reason they've lasted in spite of the unorthodox start to their relationship.

"I think when it comes to marriage or any long-term relationship, man, it's just a lot of work. It's worth it, but it is a lot of work," he shares. "And so for people going into them, that's just something to keep in mind that you're constantly on the clock and you get out of it what you put into it."

"If you're willing to have those hard conversations that might be a little uncomfortable, you are going to have that peace of mind," he continues. "But if you don't address it, you're stewing on it like, 'God, I just wish this could be resolved,' but you're not taking any steps to resolve it, it is no bueno."

Addressing their issues directly is also something they've had to do in couples therapy, which Cameron says "came up probably within our second year of marriage" and has only benefited them since.

"I personally had not done any therapy before. I was one of those people who felt like, 'Oh, if I go to therapy, I'm admitting a weakness of some kind or something like that.' But my perspective's totally changed since then," he explains. "I think it's something that given your mindset going into it and your willingness to have that dialogue with a therapist and with your partner, I think it's something that would be super beneficial [to couples]."

Lauren agrees, noting that "we wanted a safe space where we both could express ourselves, which we have no problem with expressing ourselves, but I think it's a good outlet."

"Therapy is a great place to get it all out there and not have to walk on eggshells with each other," she says. "That's the place where you could just get it all out. For us, that was really helpful."

Chiming in, Cameron adds, "Especially just figuring out... 'cause sometimes it's like you just needed a little bit of help figuring out how to communicate it. You want to communicate, you're open to communicating, but for whatever reason, maybe there's some sort of a disconnect in what one person's saying, the other person's saying. You really might be on the same page, you just need that link to bring everything together."

Lauren and Cameron met and tied the knot on season 1 of Netflix's Love Is Blind. They've been fan favorites ever since and celebrated their fifth anniversary in November by renewing their vows at Bellagio Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

"It feels like a flash," Lauren told PEOPLE at the time. "We feel so blessed and we're happy. Every day feels like I fall more and more in love with Cam, which I didn't even know was possible. So I'm just happy to be where we are now and for our growth and proud of us."

Cameron added, "Five years, it is both a long time and not very much time ... it's gone by really quickly, but then there have been times where marriage takes a lot of work. You have to put in a lot to get to a good place, which I feel great about where we are. So, I'm really thankful for those times where it was challenging because it ultimately leads to a stronger marriage."

On the career front, the two run their Hanging with the Hamiltons YouTube channel and recently teased their return to reality TV in a hosting capacity to PEOPLE. Lauren also co-hosted a podcast called We Have the Receipts with Chris Burns and plans to launch a nonprofit for underserved women in the Atlanta and Detroit areas.

More recently, the two teamed up with Lay's to launch the new chips and introduce fans to their "Marry Me" chicken tenders, a dish that sealed the deal in their relationship. The tenders are made with Lay's new "swicy" potato chips and the recipe also features a sweet and spicy dipping sauce created by the Hamiltons.

"I think we already all know that Lay's is America's favorite chip," Cameron says. "So I think for us, why this made perfect sense, this partnership is Lay's Sweet and Spicy Honey flavored Chips. I mean, it represents Lauren and I because we are the sweet and spicy duo. We're the yin to each other's yang, that sort of perfect harmony of sweet and spicy. Swicy, if you will. So I think if you were to put us into a chip form, this would be the chip."

"Exactly," adds Lauren. "It's perfect!"
