“Love Is Blind”’s Matthew Reveals New Girlfriend and Reason for Skipping Season 6 Reunion, Pokes Fun at 'Pistachio' Image

Matthew Duliba was previously compared to a pistachio by season 6 cast member and ex AD Smith since he appeared to have a hard exterior that was difficult to break through

Matthew Duliba is explaining why he didn’t make an appearance on the recent Love Is Blind reunion — and what he's been up to since season 6 cameras stopped rolling.

In an Instagram Q+A on Sunday, Duliba, 37, revealed that he has a new girlfriend, and he spent the day of the reunion with her. First sharing that he is not single anymore, he responded to a fan asking, “Do you like Spanish/Latin women” with a photo of the new love in his life.

“Funny you should ask, this is Vanesa, my gf,” he captioned the photo. “This picture was taken the same day as the reunion. We went to the Charlotte FC soccer game with friends.”

Later in the Q+A, someone asked why he didn’t want to be at the Netflix special, which aired on March 13. He replied: “Not going back into a situation where they maintain editing control.”

He attributed the way he was portrayed on the show to editing, claiming that they would “cut and paste” his words.

“If I would’ve known that, I wouldn’t have done it,” he added.

PEOPLE has reached out to reps at Kinetic Content, the production company behind Love Is Blind, for comment.

Duliba also said he wished they showed his “abundance of rizz," which is slang for charisma, in the pods.

He then alleged that he was “yelled” at by a producer for suggesting the other men keep their drinking to a minimum. “I was basically the dad of the experience,” he said.

On Saturday, Duliba also posted a video on his feed, poking fun at castmate Amber Desiree "AD" Smith, who said he was hard to crack like a pistachio. Love Is Blind co-host Nick Lachey also referred to him as the "little pistachio" during the season 6 reunion.

“Happy Friday,” Duliba said in the clip. “You know I really do like pistachios. They’re one of my favorite foods. They take a little bit of time, require a little bit of patience. They’re so unique and so delightful.”

In that same clip, joked that he also liked chicken and rice because he can season it however he wants, once again referencing AD. At the reunion, she said they met up after filming and he cooked her chicken and rice for dinner.

“Without the context of those spices and sides, chicken and rice can be so much more,” he said.

To close out the video, he became more serious, encouraging his followers to remember participants on Love Is Blind are human.

“Everybody who has supported me over the last months, I want to tell you how much I appreciate you,” he told the camera. “It hasn’t been easy, but I’m certainly excited about the future. And I think it’s really important to know that this isn’t just a TV show, and these are real people.”

He continued: “I think a lot of these people are struggling a little bit. If you can be anything, be kind.”
