Love Island star Tasha Ghouri very nearly bagged herself a part in this year's Barbie.

Notable for being the hit dating show's first-ever deaf contestant, Tasha revealed as much on social media yesterday (April 5) after a fan superimposed her onto a movie poster.

"Fun fact, I got to the final round of the Barbie film audition as a dancer but didn't get the job – filming was at same time as Love Island, crazy how the universe works," she replied.

Unsurprisingly, the reality TV star's Hollywood revelation made a huge splash amongst her fanbase, as one individual wrote: "OMG literally can't think of a better fit!! But to be honest I'm thankful for Love Island because that's how I knew you and your beautiful heart."

"OMG would have taken us a year to discover you?! No worries we'll see you in the Barbie sequel" and "But if you'd got it you wouldn't have met [boyfriend Andrew Le Page]?! Everything happens for a reason!" pointed out another pair of users.

Directed by Oscar-nominated Greta Gerwig (Little Women), Barbie boasts one of the most glorious ensemble casts you'll ever lay eyes on, with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling leading the pack as Barbie and Ken.

Simu Liu (Shang-Chi), Will Ferrell (The Shrink Next Door), Nicola Coughlan (Derry Girls), Michael Cera (Arrested Development), John Cena (Peacemaker), Helen Mirren (Shazam! Fury of the Gods) and Sex Education trio Emma Mackey, Ncuti Gatwa and Connor Swindells are just some of the standout supporting players.

Discussing her initial nerves over the project, Gerwig told Dua Lipa on the At Your Service podcast: "It felt like vertigo starting to write it. Like, where do you even begin? What would be the story? That feeling that I had was knowing that it would be really interesting terror.

"Usually that's where the best stuff is. I am terrified of that. Anything where you're like: 'This could be a career-ender,' then you're like: 'OK, I probably should do it.'"

Barbie is scheduled for cinemas on July 21. Love Island airs on ITV2, and is available via catch up on ITVX and BritBox.
