Love It or List It’s Hilary Farr and David Visentin Open Up About Their Competitive Chemistry: ‘We Actually Do Get Really Angry’
Love It or List It’s Hilary Farr and David Visentin aren’t married, but they still make for a pretty cute couple.
“It’s good. Even when he’s a pain, he’s more laid-back than I am,” says Farr, 64, the hit HGTV series’ interior designer.
“That’s an understatement,” real estate agent Visentin, 51, adds.
Though they’ve played a vital role in each other’s lives since the show began in 2008, when they first crossed paths, Visentin didn’t exactly leave a memorable impression.
“She actually says she doesn’t even remember me from the audition,” Visentin recalls.
“Because it’s the truth,” Farr quips. “However, pleasantly surprised because he makes me laugh. And that’s pretty great.”
The two duke it out on each episode of Love It or List It to see who can convince a homeowner to take their advice, with Farr redesigning the couple’s current home in attempt to get them to stay put while Visentin shows off a move-in ready property in hopes they’ll relocate. While their competitive streak on the show seems like all fun and games, both are adamant that there’s nothing friendly about it.
“How can competition be friendly?” Visentin says. “What we’re very skilled at is getting over arguments.”
“We actually do get really angry,” Farr says. “Mostly, I get really angry.”
But both agree that their good-natured bickering is what has contributed to their series’ success.
“We really shaped the show because of who we are,” Farr says. “If you see the very early episodes and the episodes now, there’s a big difference.”
