LTA warns against transport pass scam, urges public not to disclose personal info

Scam entices Facebook users with offer of unlimited transport pass for just $2, in order to obtain personal details

SINGAPORE —The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has denied claims that it is offering an "unlimited public transport pass" to commuters in exchange for their personal information.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday (25 April), it has cautioned the public against a social media scam that purportedly invites people to reveal their personal information in order to win a transport pass for unlimited travel.

According to the scam Facebook page, users must answer questions to "verify" that they are genuine in order to have a chance to purchase the travel pass for just $2.

However, the website also stated that there is a limited number of cards available.

Some users have allegedly claimed to have received the card within seven days, but the LTA has warned that the offer is not genuine and that they will never request personal details via web links.

“LTA will not ask for your personal particulars via web links. Members of the public are advised to not click on the link or divulge personal information to anyone," it said in the Facebook post.
