Luke Newton Improvised That "Two Finger" Move in the Bridgerton Carriage Scene
Dearest gentle reader, the time has come to discuss the Carriage Scene™. And by that we obviously mean the moment Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington first hook up in Bridgerton Season 3. Specifically the part where Colin—fresh off of fingering Penelope—adjusts the sleeve of her dress and makes sure not to use those two fingers.
Not sure if you lurk on the Bridgerton corners of Twitter, but it's a deeply horny place and everyone is extremely invested in Colin's finger moment, as you can see:
idk if this is some incredible attention to detail but colin only used his ring and pinky fingers to help arrange her dress probably cause he just fingered her and didnt wanna mess with her dress or anything pic.twitter.com/UEDgQbx1o9

So what I’m not over, is Colin finger banging Penelope in the carriage, and then when he goes to fix her dress, he makes sure to not touch it with those two fingers. #BRIDGERTON #polin pic.twitter.com/Q14EBTkN2g

the way he backed off immediately and without any anger when penelope called them friends, the way he waited for her consent to go any further, the way he fixed her dress and hair (without using THOSE fingers)... colin bridgerton in a world full of boys you're a GENTLEMAN pic.twitter.com/X8WiGuBy5P

The way that I saw him reach to fix her dress and thought "maybe not with *those* fingers 😬" and then he DIDN'T?! Colin Bridgerton I must apologize, I was unfamiliar with your game. pic.twitter.com/DcTfakgKf2

Someone pointed out the specific fingers Colin Bridgerton uses (and the ones he doesn’t use) to fix Penelope’s dress in the carriage scene, and once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

Sooooo, apparently this move came straight from the brain of Luke Newton! This was confirmed by Bridgerton director Andrew Ahn on Twitter, who told a fan "I wish I could take credit for this incredible moment of… physical authenticity, but I did not give this piece of direction. It was all Luke Newton!"

Luke spoke to Deadline about filming the scene, saying it "encapsulates everything." More importantly, he let it slip that "We did multiple versions, maybe five or six different versions of how we play the scene out and then just left it up to the edit. That was a really freeing process of just let’s cover all bases here and whatever works within the story…it just felt really appropriate. I feel like it’s written so perfectly that we finish the end of Part 1 at that point, because it feels like a moment of relief and contentment, but actually there’s the underlying story of Whistledown."
