The luxury hotel brand consumers look up most online

Hilton Hotels & Resorts has emerged as the most sought-after hotel brand in the world.

According to the recently released World Luxury Index Hotels report, the US hotel chain topped 70 other luxury property brands to take 23 percent of global online demand in 2012.

In addition to being the most sought-after brand globally, the Hilton also emerged as the most popular chain in the US, the UK, Brazil, Germany, Italy and Russia.

And in particularly high demand on the web are Hilton hotels in places like London, New York, Chicago, Hawaii and Las Vegas.

Study authors credit the chain’s global success to the fact that the Hilton enjoys a strong brand awareness around the world: there are more than 550 Hilton-branded properties in 80 countries across six continents.

Rounding out the top five most sought-after luxury hotels are the Sheraton, Westin, Four Seasons and the Hyatt.

For the study, conducted by the Digital Luxury Group in partnership with Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne, analysts culled through more than 133 million online searches for luxury hotel names on Google, Bing, Yandex in Russia and Baidu in China.

Other findings from the report include:

-The US also dominates the luxury hotel industry, with 75 percent of all hotels analyzed originating from the US.

-And while US consumers continue to represent the largest consumer base for luxury hotels, Russians, British and Chinese are the fastest-growing luxury hospitality groups in the world.

-New York remains the top luxury destination in the world, while London, Dubai and Paris are the fastest-growing international destinations.

-The fastest-growing hotel groups are Jumeirah, Fairmont and the Shangri-La.
