Joel's praised Channel 4 for its support as the show explores his three-way romance and sees him open up more about his personal life in front of the cameras.

"I am not apprehensive about Ofcom complaints because Channel 4 have done everything they can to help us through this process," he told Mail Online.

He went on to explain the broadcaster provided a queer specialist to aid the cast with any "emotional struggles" both during and after filming.

Further praising the broadcaster, Joel added: "The channel has endeavoured to really be on our side in this storyline. If other people have negative complaints, then I don't care because Channel 4 have worked with us tirelessly to portray this story in the best possible light.

"Being a gay person, you are more prepared for trolling because you are in the minority. I don't read the comments... my mum does. But Robbie and I are in this together, so we have got each other's backs."

The upcoming episodes will see Joel and Robbie, who are in a committed relationship, form a romantic connection with model Geronimo. One scene is set to show the couple kiss each other before welcoming Geronimo into a three-way moment.

Detailing how the romantic bond began, Joel described it as "very slow, very sweet, very communicative".

"It wasn't just about the sex but what it all meant to us," he continued.

This isn't the first time Made in Chelsea has made TV history as in 2020 it became the first reality series to screen a same-sex wedding after Ollie Locke and husband Gareth got married.

Made in Chelsea airs on E4.
