Mahershala Ali In Talks For New ‘Jurassic World’
Mahershala Ali is in talks to join the newest installment in the Jurassic World franchise from Universal Pictures, Deadline can confirm.
Details as to the role he’ll be playing are under wraps, as is the plot of the film, which is said to launch an all-new storyline. But should the deal make, he’ll join an ensemble that includes Scarlett Johansson, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Jonathan Bailey and Rupert Friend, as previously announced.

Gareth Edwards has been enlisted to direct the new film from a script by David Koepp. Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley are producing for Kennedy-Marshall, with Steven Spielberg executive producing for Amblin Entertainment. EVP of Production Development Sara Scott and Creative Executive of Production Development Jacqueline Garell are overseeing the film, slated for release on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, on behalf of the studio.
Best known for his Oscar-winning performances in Green Book and Moonlight, Ali is coming off the Sam Esmail thriller Leave the World Behind, which topped Netflix’s charts when it debuted last December and quickly made its way into the streamer’s Top 10 most popular films of all time. Prior to that, reprising his role as Uncle Aaron in the animated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and starring in Apple TV+’s sci-fi drama Swan Song, the actor’s dance card looking ahead also includes Laika’s Wildwood, trilogy closer Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, and Marvel’s long-gestating new take on Blade, which has him set for the title role.
