Over four months, the maid sexually groomed her employer’s 11-year-old son and engaged in various sexual acts with him.

The 33-year-old maid later told the boy that she had recorded the acts on video in order to scare him into obeying her.

The maid, an Indian national, was convicted of five charges and jailed for 18 months last Thursday (22 November), following a five-day trial. Four of these were for committing an indecent act with a child while one charge was for threatening the boy and causing him alarm.

The boy, now 14, and the maid cannot be named due to a gag order.

The maid, who was employed by the family in early 2015, began sexually grooming the boy by showing him an obscene gesture a year into her employment. A few days later, she asked the boy to kiss her on the lips before proceeding to commit an obscene act.

Later, the maid became emboldened and brought the boy to a bed. She carried out various sexual acts with the boy.

During the period, whenever the two had disagreements, the maid would tell the boy that she had recorded videos of them engaging in sexual acts. She threatened to show the videos to her brother and his parents, prompting the boy to obey her out of fear.

The offences came to light in July 2016 after the boy’s father found out his son was distressed.

The son called the father to say the maid was about to hit him. The father returned home but she tried to brush off the matter. The boy was about to complain to his father but kept quiet after the maid remarked, “Do you know what your son is doing?”

Suspecting something was amiss, the father brought the boy to the master bedroom where the boy confided to him about his ordeal.

During the trial, the maid strenuously denied committing the offences, claiming that the boy had only gone to the kitchen to “sayang” her.

The maid also accused a police officer who recorded her statement of raising his hands against her and claimed that she had not eaten for two days before the police interview.

The prosecution sought 24 months’ jail to be imposed on the maid.

“The accused’s offending acts in corrupting the victim and stealing his innocence, was not only selfish, it had also betrayed the trust reposed in her by the parents and would undoubtedly leave an indelible psychological impact on the victim,” said the Deputy Public Prosecutor Chee Ee Ling.

The maid will be appealing her conviction and sentence.
