SINGAPORE — She stole more than $8,000 in cash from her employer and hid part of the money in her vagina.

A total of $5,002 of the stolen sum was recovered after the maid underwent a body scan while in Changi Women’s Prison. She had hidden the money in a sanitary pad and a plastic bag before placing it inside her vagina.

Bajo Nelgielyn Bobita, a 28-year-old Filipino, was jailed 16 weeks after she pleaded guilty to two counts of theft as a servant.

Bajo was employed by Lee See Boon, a 69-year-old Singaporean, for about one year and two months when she committed the offences.

On 22 February this year, the maid was cleaning the house when she decided to steal from her employer. She went into Lee’s room to search for valuables.

She found a small bag containing a safe key and a piece of paper with the pin number of a safe on it. Bajo managed to unlock the safe and stole $3,000 in cash.

She remitted half of the sum two days later and remitted the remaining sum on 3 March at Lucky Plaza to the Philippines.

On 6 March, the maid was performing her household chores when she again decided to steal from Lee, as she was in financial difficulty. She again unlocked the safe with the same pin and made off with $5,002 in cash.

Lee discovered that the money was missing on the same day and made a police report. Bajo was arrested on the same day.

Bajo was charged with the offences two days later and sent to Changi Women’s Prison. At about 9pm that evening, a body scanning process revealed the foreign object in her vaginal cavity.
