Malaysian nabbed by Aussie police over 20-year rape allegation

A Malaysian man was transferred to Perth yesterday to face allegations of rape that occurred 20 years ago, Australia's Perth Now reported. The man, whose name emerged as a result of a cold case review, is wanted over a sex attack in March 1996 when he allegedly broke into a villa and assaulted a woman, then aged 38, in her Scarborough home. According to the report, the suspect was said to be studying in Perth at the time. Perth Now said Western Australia’s State Crime Operations Squad had successfully sought the man’s extradition from Sydney yesterday. It was reported that the Australian Federal Police had been tipped off by their WA counterpart and picked up the 49-year-old man at the Sydney Airport on Thursday night after he landed on a flight from Malaysia. The suspect appeared in Sydney’s Waverley Court House on Friday morning and arrived at Perth Airport about 4pm. The report said the man was set to appear in the Perth Magistrate's Court today to face six counts of aggravated sexual penetration without consent and one count each of deprivation of liberty, burglary and committing an offence and unlawful wounding. – February 13, 2016.
