A 53-year-old Chinese man was arrested on Wednesday (9 August) after he was spotted flying a drone within the restricted zone designated for the National Day Parade (NDP).

According to a police statement, the man was seen committing the act at the Marina Barrage at 3.01pm. The man’s drone was also seized by the police.

Under the Public Order Act, the area surrounding the Marina Bay Platform – where the NDP was held – was declared a Special Event Area for the whole of Wednesday. This meant that no Unmanned Aerial Vehicles or drones were allowed within the restricted zone.

Police investigations into the matter are ongoing. If convicted, the man could be jailed for up to 12 months, fined up to $20,000, or both.
