Man charged in stabbing death of 66-year-old outside a Laval home overnight

A 32-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection to a stabbing death overnight in Laval, Que.

According to Laval police, a 66-year-old man was fatally stabbed outside a home on Robin Street at around 3:30 a.m. Monday in the city's Laval-des-Rapides district.

The victim, Abdelhak Ajaba, was transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead. The accused was arrested at the scene.

A sedated Mohamed Reda Ajaba was awakened by a police officer Monday afternoon to appear before a judge by video conference. According to his lawyer, he is hospitalized due to injuries.

He pleaded not guilty, and the case has been postponed until Jan. 29. The Crown opposes his release.

The death marks the first homicide of the year in Laval.
