A 48-year-old man has been arrested following the discovery of the remains of a woman reported missing last week.

The remains of the woman, whom police believe is that of missing 31-year-old Cui Yajie, were found at Lim Chu Kang Lane 8 on Wednesday (20 July).

In a statement, police said Cui had been reported missing on 14 July after she failed to turn up for work on 12 July.

She was last seen at Fusionopolis Walk on 11 July at about 9:15 pm, said police. There were “suspicious circumstances” surrounding her death, they added, and officers from the Clementi Division worked with the Criminal Investigation Department and Police Intelligence Department to conduct investigations.

Police established the identity of the suspect who was subsequently arrested on the same day. The suspect will be charged with murder in court on Thursday (21 July). If found guilty, he faces the mandatory death penalty if convicted.
