A 40-year-old man believed to be involved in a series of cat abuse cases in Yishun has been arrested and will be charged in court on Tuesday (29 December), the Police and the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) said in a joint statement on Monday (28 December).

Between September and December, the Police and AVA received several reports of cats found injured or dead in Yishun.

On Saturday (26 December), Yishun 326 Tabby cat, a cat interest group, posted on its Facebook page several pictures of a dead cat found floating in the Yishun pond next to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. It was unclear if the incident was linked to the man who was arrested.

Following investigations by AVA and the Police, the man’s identity was established and he was arrested on Sunday (27 December) along Yishun Ring Road.

The man will be charged in court by AVA for committing offence(s) of animal cruelty.

Anyone found guilty of animal cruelty can be fined up to $15,000 and/or jailed up to 18 months, or both for the first offence.

For second and subsequent offences, the maximum penalty is $30,000 or a jail term of up to 3 years, or both.

The Police and AVA urge the public who has any information on animal cruelty cases to contact AVA at 1800-476-1600.
