The Nottingham Panthers player suffered a neck injury from a skate during a collision with Sheffield Steelers' Matt Petgrave on 28 October.
The 29-year-old was taken to hospital in Sheffield where he was pronounced dead.
On Wednesday, South Yorkshire Police said the man, initially arrested in November, had been re-bailed until 2 September.
