SINGAPORE - A 21-year-old man was charged in court on Wednesday (9 October) with slashing another man’s face at Orchid Hotel last week.

Wong Kian Hong is accused of causing grievous hurt to Poh Say Hong with a knife with a 5cm blade at about 4.10pm last Thursday, causing the 31-year-old victim permanent facial disfiguration.

District Judge Ong Luan Tze ordered Wong to be remanded at Central Police Division for one week for further investigation, with permission to be brought out of remand.

The case will be mentioned again next Wednesday.

In a news release on Tuesday, the police said the suspect fled the scene after the incident. Officers identified him through ground enquiries and CCTV footage.

Wong was arrested on Tuesday along Orchard Road, the police added.

If found guilty of his charge of causing grievous hurt with a deadly weapon, Wong faces up to 15 years’ jail along with a fine or caning.
