Man City injury update: Erling Haaland, Ederson and Manuel Akanji latest news and return dates

Manchester City jet off for a winter break training camp this week with multiple injured players to monitor.

Neither Erling Haaland or John Stones are expected to recover in time for the FA Cup trip to Tottenham on the other side of the stint in Abu Dhabi.

But there is hope that Manuel Akanji and Ederson can overcome issues during the warm-weather workouts.

City are in high spirits despite the absence of Haaland in particular, with Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku all back in contention following spells on the sidelines.

Here is your latest update of Man City injury news and return dates...

Erling Haaland

The ongoing saga over Haaland's foot injury received a fairly definitive answer from Guardiola ahead of the Newcastle trip, with the striker now ruled out until the end of the month.

"The doctors decided to stop him for one week and maybe restart in Abu Dhabi," the City boss explained.

"Hopefully at the end of this month he’ll be ready. It was a little bit more than we expected in the beginning. It’s a bone, it needs time. Every injury you can do whatever you want but it’s a question of time.

"Now we have two games but when you are injured at end of November, you miss a lot of games. And we missed him. We need him. Hopefully he can come back and play the last four or five months without a problem."

That means Haaland is almost certain to miss the FA Cup clash with Spurs before quickfire Premier League matches against Burnley and Brentford present his most likely chance to play again.

Potential return date: Wednesday January 31, vs Burnley

Ederson

A blow early on in the win at Newcastle forced Ederson off but City are optimistic that the goalkeeper will be ready to feature after the break.

"He didn't walk well as he left the pitch," admitted Guardiola post-match.

"But if it is just a knock he will be fine because we have a break for 10 days. If there is some damage, the doctors will tell me."

Potential return date: Friday January 26, vs Tottenham

Manuel Akanji

Swiss defender Akanji is racing to be fit for City's next game after suffering an injury in the FA Cup win over Huddersfield.

While his absence was described as likely to last "a few weeks", it has been confirmed that Akanji is looking at either the Tottenham or Burnley games for his return.

How his injury progresses during the training camp in the Middle East will determine the exact date of his comeback.

John Stones

City defender Stones suffered an ankle injury in the win at Everton, which angered Guardiola as it occurred in an attack that was clearly offside - yet was allowed to play on before the linesman's flag went up.

No timeframe has been given for his recovery with the manager simply labelling him as "out" before the Newcastle game.
