Man City vs Chelsea LIVE!

Manchester City celebrated their latest Premier League title triumph with a straightforward 1-0 win over Chelsea on Sunday, with Julian Alavarez’s first-half goal enough to secure a 1-0 win over a Chelsea side who had their chances but rarely threatened.

Pep Guardiola's treble-chasing side had already been confirmed as champions for a fifth time in six seasons after Arsenal's loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday. That meant the Etihad Stadium was in celebratory mood for the visit of the Blues and a much-changed side gave the fans another success to cheer courtesy of an early Julian Alvarez goal.

Chelsea had a few bright moments but City, without getting anywhere near the intensity with which they crushed Real Madrid in midweek, always seemed in control. Thousands of fans invaded the pitch after the final whistle, delaying the trophy presentation. After the celebrations subside, City have further league games at Brighton and Brentford before they play the FA Cup and Champions League finals next month.

Full-time!

17:56 , Alex Young

94mins: Fans are on the pitch as the players rush for the tunnel!

17:55 , Alex Young

93min: Almost a last-gasp equaliser for Chelsea!

Foden clearing away from off Azpilicueta.

17:52 , Alex Young

90min: Three minutes added on.

17:50 , Alex Young

89min: Walker flies down the wing like it’s the second minute, but then his attempted cross is sent behind the goal like it’s the 89th minute.

17:48 , Alex Young

87min: City want to add another as Chelsea camp out in their own penalty area. The ball falls to Haaland, then Stones and then Alvarez blasts high and wide.

17:46 , Alex Young

85min: Havertz, who has done nothing all game, is replaced by Pulisic.

17:42 , Alex Young

81min: Koulibaly replaces Hall as Chukwuemeka replaces Loftus-Cheek.

17:40 , Alex Young

80min: Chukwuemeka is coming on.

17:39 , Alex Young

79min: Laporte and Gomez make way for Rodri and De Bruyne.

So, Lewis goes to left-back as Rodri goes alongside him at centre-back.

17:38 , Alex Young

77min: Alvarez has a shot from the edge of the area, which is easy for Kepa.

17:36 , Alex Young

75min: City preparing to bring on De Bruyne and Rodri.

17:36 , Alex Young

74min: Haaland goes within inches of assisting Lewis at the back post.

17:35 , Alex Young

73min: Mahrez goes off, replaced by Haaland.

NO GOAL!

17:34 , Alex Young

71min: Alvarez thinks he’s scored another, but it’s ruled out for a Mahrez handball.

17:34 , Alex Young

69min: Chelsea bring on Mudryk and Madueke for Sterling and Gallagher.

NO GOAL!

17:30 , Alex Young

68min: Mahrez has the ball in the back of the net but Alvarez fouled Fofana in the build-up.

Nizaar Kinsella at Etihad Stadium

17:25 , Alex Young

“Noni Madueke and Mykhailo Mudryk are warming up but there doesn't seem to be much urgency from Frank Lampard to use his substitutes. He seems content with keeping City are arm's length.”

17:24 , Alex Young

62min: The pace has dropped even further. I would say Chelsea players are chasing shadows, but that would require them to run.

17:19 , Alex Young

58min: Phillips’ header comes back off the inside of the post! Superb leap, so unlucky.

17:17 , Alex Young

57min: Stones replaces Akanji.

17:17 , Alex Young

56min: Stones is coming on.

17:14 , Alex Young

52min: Sterling is showing a bit of urgency against his former club, which is more than most of his team-mates.

17:12 , Alex Young

49min: The game’s pace hasn’t increased much, but Hall has just tested Ortega have a smart counter from City.

Second half

17:07 , Alex Young

46min: Back underway. No changes.

17:06 , Alex Young

Chelsea will want to “get this game over with”, says Jamie Redknapp. “I feel sorry for Enzo Fernandes”.

Here come the teams for the second half.

17:00 , Alex Young

The has largely been played at a walking pace, which isn’t a surprise, but Chelsea have threatened. Perhaps hope of a point as they look to finish in the top half.

Second half coming up.

Half-time!

16:50 , Alex Young

48min: Corner comes to nothing and that’s half-time!

16:50 , Alex Young

47min: Havertz sends a free kick into the wall. Sterling almost gets to the rebound but does win a corner.

16:48 , Alex Young

46min: One minute added.

16:46 , Alex Young

43min: Alvarez darts down the left, but opts against finding a team-mate in the centre and rather turns and rolls the ball back to Phillips who whacks a shot high a wide.

16:43 , Alex Young

40min: City wisely slowing the pace of the game down after those two Chelsea chances. They don’t need anything to spoil the day.

OFF THE POST!

16:38 , Alex Young

36min: Hold on, are Chelsea building momentum all of a sudden? Gallagher denied with a header from a fine Hall cross.

16:36 , Alex Young

34min: Better! Sterling runs through and tests Ortega with Chelsea’s first shot on target. Needed more power, tho.

16:35 , Alex Young

32min: A half chance for Sterling as he runs onto a ball over the top, but he’s in two minds whether to shoot or pass to Havertz inside the six-yard box. He does the latter, and should have done the former.

16:32 , Alex Young

30min: A superb effort from Foden sees his lob over Kepa spin just the wrong side of the far post.

16:29 , Alex Young

27min: This is basically a pre-season friendly.

So many City fans doing the Poznan.

Nizaar Kinsella at Etihad Stadium

16:28 , Alex Young

“Frank Lampard must be thinking thank goodness that Arsenal lost yesterday or his side could have been blown away by now. A really poor start from Chelsea.”

OFF THE LINE!

16:27 , Alex Young

25min: City denied another as Chalobah hacks Palmer's effort away.

Smart build-up play from Foden on the half-turn to spot Palmer’s run.

16:26 , Alex Young

23min: “It’s just so basic from Chelsea,” says Gary Neville on Sky Sports, as Chelsea play the ball around their defence.

16:23 , Alex Young

20min: Chelsea players don’t appear too bothered about closing down City, who are just passing the ball around with ease and waiting for the perfect moment.

16:18 , Alex Young

15min: City are literally queuing up.

Foden, Alvarez, Foden again and Mahrez all have shots blocked inside the area.

The following corner flies out of play.

GOAL!

16:16 , Alex Young

12min: So, so easy.

Chelsea give the ball away through Fofana with a slack pass. City break, Palmer through the middle who finds Alvarez to take a touch and slot from from 18 yards.

The champions are up and running.

16:13 , Alex Young

9min: Pause in play after Walker goes through Fernandes. The Premier League’s most expensive ever player should be fine, though.

16:10 , Alex Young

6min: The game isn’t being played at the most electric pace, I have to say. City findings gaps, already, but it does have the feel of a ‘let’s all get in on the act’ up front.

Nizaar Kinsella at Etihad Stadium

16:06 , Alex Young

“It’s a shame Carney Chukwuemeka is only on the bench after being withdrawn from the England squad for the Under 20s World Cup.”

16:06 , Alex Young

3min: Another another for City which ends with a speculative half-volley from Gomez, which is a few yards wide.

16:06 , Alex Young

2min: City players lining up already. First Mahrez is blocked on the edge of the area, and then Phillips has a pop which is deflected wide.

Kick-off

16:03 , Alex Young

1min: Here we go!

16:00 , Alex Young

City players are clapped through by their Chelsea counterparts. Then City fans boo the Premier League anthem.

15:59 , Alex Young

Here come the teams. First Chelsea, to line up the guard of honour.

Nizaar Kinsella at Etihad Stadium

15:54 , Alex Young

“It’s a party atmosphere in Manchester. It almost feels like the match is a sideshow. The sprinklers are out making the pitch very wet in the searing sunshine and they are creating mini-rainbows at the Etihad Stadium.”

15:49 , Alex Young

Manchester City have matched Manchester United’s three-peat of title from 2009. Does that mean more to the club?

Here’s Pep Guardiola, talking to Sky Sports.

“Every Premier League is special but, of course, when you win three in a row it means consistency. Especially against opponents - Liverpool in the past and against an incredible, incredible Arsenal - so that’s why I give credit to the opponents. Liverpool and now Arsenal, both teams bring us to our limits.”

15:45 , Alex Young

How do Chelsea approach today given City’s changes? Here’s Frank Lampard, talking to Sky Sport.

“Firstly I think we have to respect it in the right way because they’re deserved champions - we all know that now. The dynamic - how does it change? It doesn’t for us in terms of our approach, we’ve got something to prove in our performance today. For them, I don’t know. Maybe they’re more relaxed? They’ve changed the team a fair bit, giving people opportunities.”

No place for Joao Felix in the squad today. He is reportedly injured and should be back for the Manchester United game.

15:37 , Alex Young

There will be a guard of honour this afternoon, and a Premier League trophy presentation.

But do Chelsea stand a chance given the changes? Lampard may have wanted to be bolder with his line-up.

Chelsea, have made five changes from the 2-2 draw with Newcastle.

Kepa, Loftus-Cheek, Azpilcueta, Havertz and Wesley Fofana come into a pretty much full-strength team given injuries.

15:12 , Alex Young

So, Pep Guardiola makes NINE changes with the title wrapped up.

In come Ortega, Lewis, Laporte, Phillips, Gomez, Mahrez, Palmer, Foden and Alvarez.

Phillips gets his first start for City in the Premier League since joining last summer for around £50m.

When is he appointed, Mauricio Pochettino will immediately start planning for next season.

Time is of the essence for the incoming head coach, who flew into London this week and is, as of Friday, finalising his appointment on a three-year contract.

Mauricio Pochettino's latest manager job has been confirmed, but it's not the one everyone was expecting.

The former Tottenham manager is understood to be putting the finishing touches on a three-year deal to become Chelsea's next head coach, with an official announcement expected imminently.

It will be Pochettino's first return to management since his sacking by Paris Saint-Germain at the end of last season... or so we thought.

In a surprise announcement, Pochettino has agreed to manage the World XI side against England at Soccer Aid.

Stamford Bridge will have to wait, as Old Trafford is due to host the charity match for Unicef on June 11.

Chelsea to give Man City a guard of honour

14:21 , Giuseppe Muro

Frank Lampard has confirmed Chelsea will give Manchester City a guard of honour today and has urged his squad to use it as inspiration for next season.

Lampard said: “I remember getting that as a player and it was something that was very respectful so I would have no problem with that at all.

“The only inspiration should be what it’s taken City to get where they are. The trophy lift is something to be respectful of. Understanding why they are lifting it is another.

“All down the corridors at this training ground are the pictures of people lifting trophies. They have to understand the trophy is the culmination of everything you do at the weekend and through the week.”

Prediction

It would be foolish to look past City, particularly when they are playing a Chelsea team who cannot put much of a performance together.

Benoit Badiashile has been added the growing list of Chelsea injury absentees.

The £35million January signing is out with a groin problem and joins Ben Chilwell, Reece James, N’Golo Kante, Mason Mount and Marc Cucurella on the sidelines.

Frank Lampard could look to play his high-energy but defensive 3-5-2 shape. It would be a departure from the more expansive back-four system that has seen Chelsea end a barren run in front of goal and score five goals in two matches.

Man City team news

Pep Guardiola has no fresh injury concerns.

He could consider changes to his City side with the title wrapped up and with their main focus now will be the FA Cup and Champions League finals.

But Guardiola will want to crown their third successive title in style when Chelsea travel to the Etihad Stadium and he is likely to stick with a similar side to the one which thrashed Real Madrid 4-0 in midweek.

City could again be without defender Nathan Ake due to a hamstring injury.
