A 60-year-old cyclist is dead after being struck by a driver on Highway 7 in Halton Region Sunday afternoon.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said the collision happened near Fourth Line, shortly after 3 p.m.

Investigators say both vehicles were travelling east when the cyclist was on the paved shoulder next to the travel lane. The SUV entered the paved shoulder and struck the cyclist, OPP said in a news release Monday.

The cyclist, from Georgetown, was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver, a 60-year-old from Acton, was not injured, nor were two passengers.
