Man dies after 'firearm discharged' at house - police
A man has died after a firearm was discharged at a property where police officers were carrying out inquiries, police have confirmed.
Bedfordshire Police said the incident happened at an address in St Kilda Road, Luton, at about 20:55 BST on Friday.
"Before officers entered the home, a firearm was discharged inside the house, causing injuries to a man in his thirties," said a statement.
It said officers had carried out "immediate first aid", but the man died at the scene. The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
'Higher police presence'
The officers were at the address as part of an investigation into what police described as a "firearm discharge" earlier on Friday in Sundon Park Road, about three miles away.
Police said they are not looking for anyone else in connection with either incident.
Supt Hob Hoque, of Bedfordshire Police, said: “Firstly, our thoughts are with the family of the man who died at this tragic time.
“We understand the impact an incident like this can have on not just loved ones, but the community more widely.
"The family are being supported by specialist officers and we ask the public to respect their right to privacy at this difficult time and avoid speculation.”
“A higher police presence will be in place over the coming days to carry out further investigative work and reassure the public.”
