Man fighting for life after being found with head injury in Peckham as suspect arrested

A man is fighting for his life in hospital after being found with a head injury in Peckham - as another man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

Police and paramedics were called to reports of an injured man on Sumner Road around 4.15am on Thursday.

They arrived to find a man in his 50s who had suffered a head injury.

He was taken to a south London hospital where he remained in a critical condition on Friday, said police.

“A 24-year-old man was arrested nearby on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH),” a Met spokesperson added.

“He was taken to hospital as a precaution before being taken into custody where he remains at this time.”

A crime scene remained in place on Friday.

A police cordon was seen on Jocelyn Street and Surrey Canal Walk - a green space that runs alongside it, by Peckham Library and Mountview drama school.
