A mother and daughter were shot and killed in their Miami apartment Wednesday, the city’s police department says. The daughter's ex is now charged with two counts of murder.

Isbelsy Olivera, 22, and her mother Irisbel Cartalla, 50, were shot to death at around 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, Miami police say. Minutes later, Carlos Travieso, 48, arrived at the West Miami Police Department, and, in Spanish, allegedly said he had “assassinated” two people, according to an arrest report reviewed by people.

The report says a witness to the shooting then identified Travieso in a photo lineup.

Police reviewed surveillance footage, which allegedly showed Travieso walking around the apartment complex about half an hour before the shooting before entering the building after Cartalla opened the door to let out the witness, the arrest report says.

After entering the apartment, police claim in the report, Travieso followed Cartalla and took out a gun he had allegedly been concealing.

In a press release, police described Travieso as an “estranged ex-boyfriend.” NBC Miami reported that he was Olivera’s ex.

Travieso is charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is being held without bond. It is not clear if he has entered a plea. NBC reported he was assigned a public defender.

In the days and weeks before the killings, Travieso made cryptic posts on his Facebook page. On Nov. 24, he posted a video that seemed to show him driving a car, with the caption “On my way to my new life in Arizona bye Miami nothing left here,” with several crying emojis.

Then, days before the killing, he posted a seeming goodbye message thanking God for “forgiving me I'm ready for everything amen,” with prayer hand emojis.

A GoFundMe started to raise money for funeral arrangements for the mother and daughters has raised over $2,500. Olivera was set to turn 23 on Dec. 21, while Cartalla would have been 51 on Saturday.
