Man Utd injury update: Bruno Fernandes, Raphael Varane and Scott Garnacho latest news and return dates

Manchester United are dealing with another key injury issue at a vital stage of the season.

Bruno Fernandes is the latest doubt for the Red Devils, who face Tottenham tonight, just after the returns of Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial had helped Erik ten Hag.

Raphael Varane’s season is reportedly at risk following Lisandro Martinez’s campaign being confirmed as over.

There are also question marks over when Scott McTominay and Alejandro Garnacho will return, with Phil Jones and Donny van de Beek potentially having played their last games for the club.

Here is your latest update of Manchester United injuries and return dates...

Bruno Fernandes

Concerns over the fitness of United’s midfield talisman ahead of the visit to Tottenham first arose on Monday evening, when his wife posted a photo of Fernandes on social media with his right ankle wrapped in a support brace.

Crutches and a protective boot were also visible in the picture that was uploaded to Ana Pinho’s Instagram stories.

The photo was accompanied by the image of a battery beneath the word ‘recharging’, so United fans will hope it’s nothing serious and that he can still play a part against Tottenham.

Raphael Varane

With such little time left in the season, there are fears that Varane’s ankle injury will mean he does not play again in 2022-23.

Reports indicate a six-week timeframe for the centre-back after scans were finally able to take place, having been delayed by significant swelling. The FA Cup final against Manchester City on June 3 is said to be Varane’s best bet for a return.

Ten Hag confirmed after the win over Brighton: “Yeah, Varane for the cup final, he can return.”

Alejandro Garnacho

Young winger Garnacho is edging closer towards his return from an ankle injury having been spotted out and about in Cheshire without his crutches.

Last week, he returned to some form of training with a social media post marking his first time playing in football boots since the blow suffered against Fulham on March 19.

Ten Hag is yet to put a timeframe on Garnacho’s recovery, amid reports he should play again this season.

Scott McTominay

It has now been over a fortnight since McTominay last featured in United’s win over Everton.

Ten Hag had claimed that the Scot could be fit to return in the recent trip to Nottingham Forest, but he did not appear and is yet to be spotted in training since.

The exact nature of his issue is unknown but this week’s match against Tottenham may also come too soon.

Lisandro Martinez

One player who will not feature before the summer is Martinez, following a broken metartarsal bone in his foot.

The blow was suffered in the first leg of United’s Europa League quarter-final defeat by Sevilla and required surgery.

Last week, the player posted a snap of himself in hospital following the operation.

Phil Jones

Some United fans were confused not to see the rarely-spotted Jones amid Ten Hag’s defensive crisis of late.

However, a long-term knee injury has kept him on the sidelines and the centre-back is still yet to even train under the Dutch manager.

Tom Heaton

Substitute goalkeeper Heaton has been unavailable since before the international break due to an ankle complaint.

United confirmed late last month that he will require a “few weeks” to get back up to speed, leading to Jack Butland taking his spot on the bench.

Donny van de Beek

The Red Devils expect to have Dutch midfielder Van de Beek back from a serious knee injury in time for pre-season.

The blow was suffered against Bournemouth in January with his season quickly confirmed as finished.
