Manchester United injury update: Rasmus Hojlund, Harry Maguire and Tyrell Malacia latest news and return dates

Manchester United remain outsiders in the race for the top four but Erik ten Hag’s side enjoyed a decent weekend on that front.

The Red Devils kicked off the Premier League’s weekend of action with a 2-0 win over Everton at Old Trafford on Saturday and saw Aston Villa lose to Tottenham a day later.

While Spurs still boast a game in hand on United, they remain in with a chance of catching Villa in fourth if they can go on a strong run between now and the end of the season.

First up, however, is the small matter of a trip to Liverpool in the FA Cup.

With that in mind, here’s a look at the latest Man Utd injuries.

Rasmus Hojlund

Rasmus Hojlund was in fine form before his injury after a difficult start following a £72m move from Atalanta.

The striker, however, suffered a muscle injury in February and missed the losses to Fulham and Manchester City as well as the win over Everton.

Still, Ten Hag has confirmed the Danish international could return for the trip to Liverpool.

Potential return date: Sunday 17 March 2024 vs Liverpool

Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire has enjoyed a return to form this season too but was ruled out of United’s last three games across all competitions.

Like Hojlund, Ten Hag has suggested the England international may return for the FA Cup game later this week.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Aaron Wan-Bissaka could hand United a further boost, with Ten Hag saying the defender is also in contention for Sunday’s game.

"Hopefully, some return," he said after the win over Everton. "Aaron Wan-Bissaka was, yesterday, on the pitch. We expect also Harry Maguire back in the squad next week. Rasmus Hojlund has good hope he will make it as well."

Mason Mount

Mason Mount has struggled to settle following a big summer move from Chelsea but is set to return after the international break.

“Mason Mount I think he is in a good spell now and he will return shortly,” said Ten Hag before the win over Everton.

“I think after the international break. For next week, some players are planning to return, hopefully when the process will continue like it is now.”

Potential return date: March/April 2024

Lisandro Martinez

Key defender Lisandro Martinez is another to have suffered an injury-hit campaign and a knee issue was thought to have ruled him out for around eight weeks from the start of February.

Anthony Martial

Anthony Martial underwent hip surgery in January and was expected to miss around 10 weeks of action.

With his contract expiring this summer and Hojlund the starting striker, it remains to be seen if he plays for the club again.

Potential return date: Unknown

Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw faces a race against time to play again this season after suffering a muscle injury in the win over Luton last month.

“Maybe for the last games of the season, but we don't expect him back this month or next,” said Ten Hag last week.

Potential return date: Unknown

Tyrell Malacia

Fellow left-back Tyrell Malacia hasn’t played at all this season and Ten Hag last week appeared to rule him out for the rest of the campaign.

“I think it's going to be difficult for him to be available this season,” he said.

“He will fight, he's back on the pitch, but not in the team and the process had some setbacks for him. He's still going forwards really slowly, and the season is coming to an end.”

Potential return date: Unknown

Omari Forson

Teenage talent Omari Forson pulled out of the win over Everton with an unknown injury.
