Manchester United in line for £3.5m boost as Jadon Sancho reaches Champions League final

Manchester United will bank close to £3.5million in add-ons from Jadon Sancho's loan spell at Borussia Dortmund after they reached the Champions League final.

The 24-year-old winger started both legs against Paris Saint-Germain as the German giants ran out 2-0 winners on aggregate to reach the final for the first time since 2013.

United initially received £3m when allowing Sancho to move back to his former club in January, with a further £3.5m payable depending on individual and team performances.

Sancho has achieved or is expected to achieve most of his targets, allowing United to receive almost the entire £6.5m due.

Still, the fact that United were also paying a proportion of Sancho’s £290,000-a-week wages means they are unlikely to make much in the way of profit from the arrangement.

Dortmund are keen to make Sancho’s loan move permanent but the uncertainty at Old Trafford and the high cost of his wages make it unclear whether a deal will be viable at the end of the season.

Sancho left United in January after manager Erik ten Hag accused him of failing to train to the required standard and his refusal to apologise left a rift between the pair.

Ten Hag could leave United in the summer after Monday's 4-0 loss away at Crystal Palace left United in eighth place and needing to make up ground in the race for Europe.

The 23-time England international has struggled since moving to Old Trafford and scored just 12 goals in 82 appearances.

But he has rebuilt his form at Signal Iduna Park and will face Bayern Munich or Real Madrid in the Champions League final at Wembley Stadium next month.
